On July 25, 2024, the final span of the Colombo Port Viaduct in Sri Lanka was successfully poured, marking the completion of the main line of the project and laying a solid foundation for achieving the goal of opening to traffic within the year.
Bandura Gunawadna, Minister of Transport and Highways and Minister of Mass Media of Sri Lanka, Rangis Rubasinha, Permanent Secretary of Highways, Kandabi, representative of the owner of the elevated bridge project, Liu Weimin, Chairman of China Civil Engineering Corporation, Wang Xiangdong, Deputy General Manager, and representatives of various relevant institutions attended the ceremony.

The Colombo Port Viaduct project has a total length of 5.27 kilometers and adopts a two-way four lane design. It uses segmental box girder prefabrication and assembly technology, with a total of 115 spans. This project is the first elevated bridge project in Sri Lanka to be constructed using suspended segmental technology, and upon completion, it will become the longest bridge in Sri Lanka.

Since the start of construction in September 2019, although the project implementation has been affected by unfavorable factors such as the epidemic and economic crisis, the project team has overcome difficulties with firm confidence and effective measures, scientifically organized and orderly promoted the project construction, and ensured the smooth closure of the entire bridge.

At the "Elevated Colombo - Connectivity and Prosperity" themed forum held at the same time, Bandura Gunawadna praised the construction progress and quality of the Colombo Port Elevated Bridge project in Sri Lanka in his speech, pointing out that the project is of great significance for completing the connection between the national highway network and Colombo Port, alleviating traffic congestion in the Colombo Port area, and providing fast and convenient transportation services for the port and port city. He thanked China Civil Engineering for its long-term hard work and encouraged it to continue to make efforts to improve Sri Lanka's infrastructure.

In his opening speech at the forum, Liu Weimin stated that China Civil Engineering will continue to leverage its own advantages, complete the remaining projects with high standards, high quality, and high efficiency, ensure timely delivery of projects, and present Sri Lanka with a safe, efficient, and modern transportation masterpiece. At the same time, China Civil Engineering will further strengthen cooperation with the Sri Lankan government and enterprises, striving to become a participant, contributor, and long-term partner in Sri Lanka's social development, and contribute the "strength of China Civil Engineering" to Sri Lanka's socio-economic development.
