Pakistan's Sujijinari Hydropower Station project ushered in an important milestone on August 12, 2024. Its first unit was officially connected to the grid to generate electricity, marking a crucial step towards full commercial operation of the hydropower station.
Sujijinari Hydropower Station is located in the Mansehra area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in northwestern Pakistan, above the Kunha River. Its construction is fully undertaken by China Energy Construction Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., and it is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. A high-profile flagship project under the framework, it is also the largest hydropower station invested and constructed overseas by China Energy Engineering Corporation.
With the smooth connection of the first unit to the grid, the Sujijinari Hydropower Station began to deliver green and clean electricity to Pakistan, injecting new vitality into the local society. The project is expected to generate an astonishing 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours of annual power generation, enough to benefit more than one million Pakistani households, providing them with affordable and environmentally friendly electricity supply.
Since the launch of the project in January 2017, the construction team of Sujijinari Hydropower Station has successfully achieved the feat of total installed capacity of 884 MW. Its successful operation will not only significantly optimize Pakistan's energy structure and effectively alleviate the tight supply and demand situation of electricity, but will also provide strong support for Pakistan's infrastructure upgrade and sustained economic and social prosperity.Editor/Jiang Mingyue
