Ha Electric Group wins order for Cambodia's Shangdadai Pumped Storage Power Station

Recently, the main project of Shanyang Pumped Storage Power Station in Shaanxi Province officially started construction, marking a new stage in the comprehensive construction of this national key energy project. As a key implementation project of the national "Medium - and Long Term Development Plan for Pumped Storage (2021-2035)" and a key project of Shaanxi Province during the 14th Five Year Plan period, the promotion of this power station is not only of great significance for optimizing the regional energy structure, but also provides a solid guarantee for the safe and stable operation of Shaanxi power grid and the consumption of clean energy.

The Shanyang Pumped Storage Power Station in Shaanxi Province is located in Shanyang County, Shangluo City, with a total installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts and a designed annual power generation of 1.511 billion kilowatt hours. The project fully utilizes the local natural terrain and consists of core buildings such as an upper reservoir, water conveyance system, underground powerhouse, switch station, and lower reservoir. Four reversible water pump turbine units with a single capacity of 300000 kilowatts will be installed. This design allows it to function like a super power bank, using excess electricity to pump water from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir when there is ample power supply, converting electrical energy into potential energy for storage; During peak electricity consumption periods, water discharge is used to generate electricity, timely meeting the load demand of the power grid and efficiently achieving peak shaving and valley filling.
As an important support for the load center of Shaanxi power grid, Shanyang pumped storage power station will mainly undertake key tasks such as peak shaving, valley filling, energy storage, frequency and phase modulation, and emergency backup after completion. It is worth mentioning that with the continuous growth of new energy installed capacity such as wind power and photovoltaics in Shaanxi Province, the operation of power stations will greatly enhance the grid's ability to absorb intermittent and fluctuating new energy, laying a solid foundation for building a new power system dominated by new energy.
The project is invested and constructed by Three Gorges Group, with an estimated total construction period of 60 months. According to the plan, the first unit of the project will generate electricity in December 2029, and all units will be put into operation by September 2030. This construction progress resonates with the pace of the national dual carbon strategy, demonstrating China's accelerated layout in the field of clean energy.

It is understood that pumped storage is currently the most mature technology, economically optimal, and has the most large-scale development conditions for power storage. The construction of Shanyang Power Station can not only bring long-term tax revenue and employment opportunities to the local area, but also directly drive the development of related industries and promote high-quality development of the local economy during the construction period. Meanwhile, as a green energy project, the power station generates almost no carbon emissions during its operation period, which has a positive significance for protecting the ecological environment of Qinling Mountains and promoting regional green development.
