On September 25, 2024, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, Yunus.

Minister Wang Yi conveyed the sincere greetings of the Chinese leaders to Yunus, and highly praised Yunus, as an old friend of the Chinese people, for his outstanding contributions to promoting the microfinance model and devoting himself to poverty alleviation, which coincides with the people-centered development philosophy upheld by the Communist Party of China. He stressed that the Chinese leaders firmly believe that the country is the people, and the people are the country, and that Yunus will lead the people of Bangladesh to overcome challenges and achieve national unity, stability, prosperity and rejuvenation.

Wang Yi further pointed out that the traditional friendship between China and Bangladesh is deep, and the two peoples are heart-to-heart. China is ready to join hands with Bangladesh to jointly promote this precious friendship and deepen political mutual trust, especially under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, so as to push the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries to a new height. China pledged to expand cooperation in agriculture, poverty alleviation and new energy in accordance with Bangladesh's actual needs, share valuable experience in governance, reform and opening up, and provide strong support for Bangladesh's economic and social development. At the same time, the two sides will also strengthen cooperation in international and regional affairs to jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.

Yunus expressed his appreciation for the profound friendship between China and Bangladesh, and highly appreciated China's extraordinary achievements in various fields, especially the great victory in the battle against poverty. He stressed that Bangladesh is eager to learn from China's successful experience in order to further promote the deepening of friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
