March 22nd, 2025 marks the 33rd "World Water Day". Over the past 40-odd years, China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC Overseas) has actively implemented China's Belt and Road Initiative. It has brought "Chinese technology" and "Chinese experience" to the African continent, and has been actively undertaking water conservancy and hydropower projects, helping more and more African people to access the long-awaited "safe drinking water".

Financed by the Export-Import Bank of China, the first phase of the Cameroon Nine-City Water Supply Project implemented by CGC Overseas was completed and put into operation in 2017. The second phase of the project is an extension of the first phase. It started construction on March 1st, 2024 and is currently being actively carried out.

Bafoussam is located 200 kilometers northwest of Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon. It is the capital of the West Region of Cameroon. There are six large towns and cities around it, with a total population of about 550,000. The Bafoussam Water Plant is an important part of the Cameroon Nine-City Water Supply Project. The water plant project includes structures such as the intake pump house, flocculation tank, sedimentation tank and filter tank, clear water tank and water supply pump house, chemical dosing room, power transformation and distribution room and generator room, booster pumping station, water tower, etc., as well as the installation of 393 kilometers of pipelines.

At present, the water plant produces 10,000 cubic meters of clean water per day, effectively alleviating the local water supply contradiction and meeting the water supply needs of residents in the city center and surrounding areas. It has made it convenient for the people to access clean water sources, and has significantly reduced the spread of diseases such as cholera and typhoid caused by water pollution.
