On March 30th, the national "14th Five Year Plan" major water conservancy project - Hunan Huaihua Qingshui Large Irrigation Area Project officially started construction in Zhijiang County. The total investment of this project is 6.709 billion yuan, which will construct a main canal system with a total length of 201.87 kilometers, connecting 6 reservoirs to form a "vine and melon" water supply network. After completion, it can solve the irrigation needs of 617300 acres of farmland and benefit 1.225 million urban and rural residents in terms of water safety.
The project takes the Jujian Tangyan Creek Water Conservancy Hub as the main water source and innovatively adopts a four level water conservancy facility linkage mode of "large, medium, small, and micro", including one main canal, five sub main canals, and 14 branch canals. Its iconic building, the Qingshui Aqueduct, has a span of 368 meters and will become one of the largest water conveyance aqueducts in southern China after completion. The Hunan Provincial Department of Water Resources stated that by optimizing the allocation of water resources in the Yuanjiang River Basin, the regional irrigation guarantee rate can be increased from 45% to 85%, and the annual increase in grain production is expected to reach 150000 tons.
As one of the 20 major water conservancy projects to be promoted nationwide in 2025, the construction of clear water irrigation areas will drive the development of 300000 mu of high standard farmland and create 12000 job opportunities in the local area. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2028. At that time, Huaihua City will form a modern water network pattern of "dual water sources and multiple nodes", providing solid water conservancy support for the rural revitalization of Wuling Mountain area.
