On May 5, it was reported that the "green hydrogen and ammonia production project" promoted by France's Total Energies was officially submitted to the Chilean Environmental Assessment Agency (SEIA) and entered the EIA stage.
With an investment of up to US$16 billion, the project will be the largest investment Chile will receive through SEIA.
The project is located in the municipality of San Gregorio in the Magellan region, about 200 kilometers from Punta Arenas, with the core objective of producing ammonia from green hydrogen. Supporting infrastructure includes wind farms, desalination plants, seven electrolysis centres and marine facilities. Green hydrogen is produced by the electrolysis of wind energy and desalinated water, which is then combined with nitrogen captured in the air to synthesize ammonia.
In terms of employment, 10,000 jobs will be created during the peak construction period, with an average employment of about 6,000 people; 700 people are required during the operation phase, which will be increased to 1,000 during the overhaul period; During the closure phase, about 630 people were employed at its peak. The project will not only promote clean energy, but will also significantly boost the local economy.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
