Amid the long lines of traffic in the centre of Guinea's capital, Conakry, the outline of a yellow-and-white overpass is becoming clearer. The three-storey overpass, built by the Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), will be fully opened to traffic at the end of May, ending the West African country's history of not having a modern overpass.

The Bombard Interchange project is located at the intersection of Princes Avenue and T2, which was once a "choke" point for urban traffic in Conakry. According to the preliminary survey data of the project team, the average daily traffic volume of the intersection exceeded the design capacity by three times, and the congestion during the morning and evening rush hours was particularly serious, making people's daily travel miserable.

After the Bombed overpass is fully opened to traffic, this traffic "congestion" will be opened. Gong Qiaoqi, the project manager, told reporters that the overpass is composed of an upper span bridge, a ground roundabout and an underpass channel, which will simultaneously solve the three major problems of entering and exiting the city, cross-regional and airport rapid passage, and effectively alleviate traffic congestion along the line and in the surrounding areas.

According to the doctor Christophe Sanduno, the overpass is not only a road project, but also an "accelerator" for urban development. "It used to be a pain to get through the Bombed area. We'd rather take a half-hour ferry ride across the river than get stuck in traffic for two hours. After the overpass is fully opened to traffic, the travel time will be greatly reduced. ”

Mohamed Sharif Diallo, Director of the Local Employee Office of the Project Department, said that the Bombed Interchange project is very good, it is the first three-storey overpass in the history of Guinea, and "I hope that more excellent Chinese projects will be landed in Guinea in the future."

For the citizens of Conakry, who pass by the project every day, the overpass carries great expectations for the future: some shop operators are spontaneously maintaining order in the construction area, some taxi drivers are getting acquainted with the new navigation routes, and children on the way to school count the progress of the piers......

When the morning light pours on the bridge, the overpass, which embodies the wisdom and sweat of the builders of China and Guinea, presents a new silhouette on the city skyline. After the full opening of traffic, it will not only effectively optimize the traffic pattern of Conakry City, but also provide a vivid practical example for the reconstruction and expansion of urban roads and the management and development of African countries with three-dimensional solutions.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
