PowerChina announced its main operations from January to April 2025. During the reporting period, the group signed 3,127 new contracts, with a new contract value of about 386.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 4.9%. Among them, the number of new overseas contracts increased by 28.33%, with a contract value of 83.322 billion yuan. Among the new contracts signed abroad, contracts from Southeast Asia account for a large proportion.
Among the major new overseas contracts signed by PowerChina from January to April, among the projects with a single contract value of more than 500 million yuan, the design, procurement and transportation contract of the 1,000MW wind power project in Serkong Province, Laos, with a contract value of 5.744 billion yuan, topped the list. The construction contract for the 300MW wind farm project on Sonrodip Island in Bangladesh with a contract value of 1.603 billion yuan and the EPC general contracting contract for the Yangon refinery of Myanmar 24-hour Company with a contract value of 1.405 billion yuan also play an important role.
After years of operation, PowerChina has successfully implemented a number of benchmark projects in Southeast Asia, covering key areas such as clean energy and infrastructure, injecting strong momentum into the optimization and upgrading of regional industrial and supply chains. In the field of clean energy, PowerChina has formed an advantage in the layout of the whole industry chain in Southeast Asia, and has built a number of major clean energy projects, such as the 2,400 MW Bagun Hydropower Station in Malaysia and the 500 MW Photovoltaic Project in Youting, Vietnam.
Not long ago, PowerChina had just won the "Partner of the Year Award" at the "2025 International Industrial Cooperation Conference" held in Singapore. Since 2025, the group has accelerated the construction of a number of important clean energy projects in Southeast Asia.
Recently, the filling of the dam body of the 5th bid section of the Balai Hydropower Station in Malaysia undertaken by PowerChina has been officially launched, marking that the project has entered a new stage of main project construction.
Located on the Balai River in Sarawak, East Malaysia, Balai Hydropower Station is one of the key projects of the "Sarawak Renewable Energy Corridor (SCORE)", with a total installed capacity of 1,285 megawatts, a total dam filling design capacity of 22.21 million cubic meters, a concrete panel rockfill dam with a polygonal layout along the dam axis, a design dam height of 192 meters, a crest length of 1,159 meters, a crest width of 9 meters, and a rockfill body accounting for more than 70% of the dam volume.
The 600 MW Mountain Wind Power Project in Monsong is the first wind power project in Laos, the largest single wind power project in Southeast Asia, and the first cross-border power transmission new energy project in Asia. Led by the East China Institute of PowerChina, it participated in the construction with the Tenth Hydropower Bureau and Hubei Engineering Company. At present, the overall progress of the project has reached 96%, of which 66 units in Zone 1 and Zone 2 completed the grid-connected test on April 2 and the 72-hour reliability operation of the Vietnamese power grid. After the completion of the project, it will realize the cross-border transmission of new energy power for the first time, and use the abundant local wind resources to generate electricity to Vietnam, alleviating the electricity shortage in the central region of Vietnam.
In recent years, PowerChina has helped Laos complete a number of important takeaway power transmission projects, making great contributions to Laos' goal of "Southeast Asian Battery" and ASEAN's cross-border power transmission.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
