On June 5, 2025, China National Petroleum Corporation Engineering Co., Ltd. (CPECC) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau Engineering Co., Ltd., recently received a contract award letter from TotalEnergies for the EPSCC project of the natural gas midstream pipeline network in the Attawi oilfield in Iraq.

The contract value of the project is about 294 million US dollars (about 2.122 billion yuan), and the planned construction period is 36 months, marking another major breakthrough for CPECC in the Middle East oil and gas storage and transportation engineering market.

The Attawi GMP project, located west of Basra, Iraq, involves the construction of a pipeline network from the Majnun and Sigurna II fields to the new Latawi gas processing plant. The project includes about 114 kilometers of 26-inch sour gas pipelines, 83 kilometers of 20-inch sour gas pipelines, as well as three other external pipelines and supporting station valve rooms. The project is expected to reach provisional acceptance within 36 months, and after completion, it will significantly increase the natural gas transmission capacity of Iraq's oil fields and help upgrade the local energy infrastructure.

The Middle East is an important source of China's oil imports, accounting for 53.5% of China's crude oil imports in 2022, with Iraq ranking third among China's crude oil imports. In recent years, CPECC has continued to deepen energy cooperation with Middle Eastern countries by undertaking a number of high-value projects. The implementation of the Attawi GMP project not only strengthens CPECC's competitiveness in the Iraqi market, but also lays a solid foundation for its long-term development in the Middle East.

The successful bid for Attawi's GMP project is another milestone in CPECC's continued expansion in the Middle East market. With its technological advantages and project execution capabilities, CPECC is injecting new impetus into the construction of energy infrastructure in the Middle East, while setting a model for Chinese enterprises to expand overseas markets under the Belt and Road Initiative.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
