On January 19, 2026, Norwegian offshore giant DOF Group announced that it had won a key contract to undertake the mooring and pre laying general contracting project for ExxonMobil's Guyana offshore oil project FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) from Japanese company MODEC. This contract not only consolidates DOF's position in the global high-end offshore market, but also marks substantial construction steps for ExxonMobil's seventh deepwater development project in the Stabroek block of Guyana - the $6.8 billion Hammerhead project.

Mooring pre laying large-scale general contracting project

The contract obtained by DOF this time is clearly defined as a "large-scale general contracting contract", and its core work is to provide pre laying services for the full mooring system of the FPSO "Hammerhead" to be deployed in the Hammerhead oil field. The DOF North American Subsea Engineering team will be responsible for overall internal project management, engineering design, procurement, logistics support, transportation, and final installation of the project. The project plans to utilize its two main vessels: the Skandi Implementer for pile foundation installation and the Skandi Skansen for mooring line laying. The offshore operation window is expected to be set for the second to third quarter of 2027.

Accelerate the development of maritime resources in Guyana

The Hammerhead project associated with this contract is ExxonMobil's seventh deepwater oil development project in the resource rich Stabroek block of Guyana. This block is jointly developed by ExxonMobil, Chevron's Hershey Company, and CNOOC Guyana Petroleum Company. After the Hammerhead FPSO is put into operation, it is expected to produce 120000 to 180000 barrels of crude oil per day, which will significantly increase Guyana's total oil production capacity. It is predicted that by 2029, the country's total production capacity is expected to climb to nearly 1.5 million barrels per day, becoming an important emerging crude oil supplier worldwide. DOF Global General Contracting Capability Recognized

Mons S. Aase, CEO of DOF Group, stated that this contract fully reflects the market's recognition of DOF as a global general contractor, whose core competitiveness lies in combining the professional technology of underwater engineering and mooring installation with top-notch fleet equipment. This bid also continues DOF's recent strong market performance, following its signing of a long-term support ship contract with Petrobras, further consolidating its leading position in the global offshore service field. At the same time, ExxonMobil has also awarded contracts to companies such as TechnipFMC and Saipem to advance this major energy project, working together to ensure its smooth implementation.Editor/Gao Xue
