On June 10, the State Grid Corporation of China's Hami-Chongqing ± 800 kV UHVDC transmission project (hereinafter referred to as "Hami-Chongqing project") was put into operation.
This is China's first UHVDC transmission project of the "Shagehuang" new energy base that has been put into operation and transmitted, the first UHVDC receiving project in southwest China, and the third "Xinjiang power transmission" channel in China. The project is of great significance to promote the development and delivery of energy resources in Hami, promote the optimal allocation of clean energy on a large scale, improve Chongqing's power supply guarantee capacity, and help achieve the "double carbon" goal.
Write a new chapter in the large-scale development of the western region
General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that "it is necessary to consistently grasp the implementation of the policies and measures of the CPC Central Committee to promote the large-scale development of the western region, further form a new pattern of large-scale protection, large-scale opening-up and high-quality development, enhance the overall strength and sustainable development capacity of the region, and strive to write a new chapter in the large-scale development of the western region in the Chinese-style modernization." ”
The Hami-Chongqing project starts from the Balikun converter station in Hami City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, passes through Gansu, Shaanxi and Sichuan, and ends at the Yubei converter station in Yubei District, Chongqing, using the "double 800" UHVDC transmission technology with a rated voltage of ± of 800 kV and a rated capacity of 8 million kilowatts, with a transmission distance of 2,260 kilometers and a total investment of 28.6 billion yuan. The 14.2 million kilowatt power supply supporting the project is located in the Gobi base at the northern foot of the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang, with an installed capacity of 10.2 million kilowatts of wind power, photovoltaic and solar thermal power, accounting for more than 70% of the installed capacity of new energy.
Zhang Zhigang, chairman and party secretary of the State Grid Corporation of China, said that the Hami-Chongqing project is China's first "Shagehuang" large base delivery project, which will effectively drive the development of the energy industry in the western region, promote the consumption and utilization of new energy in a larger scope, strongly support the transformation of Xinjiang's energy resource advantages into economic advantages and development advantages, serve the high-quality development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Shuangcheng Economic Circle, meet the peak load demand of Chongqing in summer, and significantly enhance the power supply capacity. The company will give full play to the important role of ensuring the supply of projects and promoting transformation, and make new and greater contributions to writing a new chapter in the development of the western region.
The project was approved by the state in July 2023 and construction started in August. In the face of the challenges of poor construction environment, congested line corridors and many crossings, tens of thousands of project builders listened to the party's command, moved when they heard the order, faced difficulties, and took scientific and technological innovation as the driving force and the "six refinements and four modernizations" as the guide to fully promote the construction of the project.
It lasted 22 months, from the foot of the Tianshan Mountains to the shore of the Yangtze River, from the Yellow Sand Desert to Bashan and Chongqing, on the map of the motherland, an "energy artery" stretching for thousands of miles and running through the north and south was engraved.
Xinjiang Power entered Chongqing to help stabilize economic growth
Xinjiang is the "three bases and one channel" determined by the state and the national strategic support base for energy resources. The project can support the reliable transmission of more than 10 million kilowatts of new energy in Hami, and help Xinjiang form a "two-cross, three-direct" transmission channel with a transmission scale of more than 30 million kilowatts, covering the power grids in Northwest, Central China, East China and Southwest China, which will effectively improve the level of new energy consumption and utilization. After the project is put into operation, it will reduce coal consumption by about 6 million tons and carbon dioxide emissions by about 16 million tons per year, which has significant energy saving and emission reduction benefits.
Chongqing is an important fulcrum for the development of China's western region and an important load center in China, with sustained and stable growth in electricity demand. Xinjiang is the core area of the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and an important transmission terminal for China's west-to-east power transmission. The Hami-Chongqing project has been put into operation and transmitted, which can continuously transmit more than 36 billion kilowatt hours of electricity from Xinjiang to the load center of Chongqing every year, significantly enhance Chongqing's energy and power guarantee capacity, and effectively promote Xinjiang to build an important new energy base and the transformation of resource advantages, which plays an important role in the economic growth and regional coordinated development of Xinjiang and Chongqing, as well as serving the development of the western region, helping rural revitalization, and improving people's well-being.
The construction of the project adopts the latest "double 800" UHVDC standardization technology achievements. The construction team actively responded to the challenges of severe cold climate, strong wind vibration, and wide distribution of saline soil and Gobi gravel soil, newly designed jumper strings and multi-degree of freedom pitch adjustment wire clamps in windy areas, piloted the application of silane impregnation anti-corrosion technology in strong corrosion areas, and innovatively carried out surface gravel curtain stripping in Gobi gravel soil areas, and then reverted the gravel curtain after the completion of the project, so as to effectively prevent and control soil erosion.
The beautiful scenery comes out of the Tianshan Mountains, and the green electricity shines for thousands of miles. The application of various new technologies and new processes has improved the construction efficiency, solved the construction problems, created a new benchmark for UHV construction, and provided an effective reference for the subsequent construction of UHV projects.
At present, the State Grid Corporation of China has formed the world's largest ultra-high voltage transmission network, which provides strong support for ensuring the safe and reliable supply of electricity and promoting green and low-carbon development.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
