At about 16 o'clock on June 18, 2025, accompanied by the sound of a loud whistle, the "Kunming Inland Port" rail-open-sea intermodal international freight train slowly drove out of the Taohuacun Freight Station of Anning Beigang of Kunming International Inland Port, marking a solid step forward in Yunnan Province in opening up the passage from China-Laos to southern Thailand. The successful delivery of the train not only further optimizes the regional logistics system, but also injects new momentum into the economic and trade cooperation between China and Southeast Asian countries.

Efficient intermodal transportation is 15 days shorter than traditional sea freight

The train was jointly organized and shipped by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Commerce, the Port Logistics Office of the Kunming Municipal Government, the Kunming International Inland Port Anning Beigang Development Center, the Yunnan International Train Company, the Anning Inland Port International and other units, together with China Railway Kunming Bureau Group Co., Ltd. Loaded with high-quality industrial products such as steel manufactured by Anning and packaging materials for Yourijiu, the train will depart from Kunming and arrive at the port of Ranong on the Indian Ocean coast of Thailand through the China-Laos-Thailand multimodal transport channel, and then finally arrive in Myanmar by sea. The whole journey is expected to take only 10 days, which is 15 days shorter than the traditional shipping time, which greatly improves the efficiency of cross-border logistics.

Normalized operation helps regional connectivity

The "Kunming Inland Port" China-Laos-Thailand international multimodal freight train departed for the first time on November 19, 2024, and officially entered the stage of normal operation in March 2025. At present, the train maintains a fixed operation every Tuesday and Friday, and has made a total of 25 trips as of May 2025. As the "golden line" effect of the China-Laos Railway continues to amplify, the "Kunming Dry Port" is actively exploring and innovating the organization mode of international cargo transportation, accelerating the construction of a diversified logistics network for South Asia and Southeast Asia, and providing strong support for deepening regional cooperation.

Create a new channel for international logistics and empower the regional economy

As an important hub of Yunnan's opening to the outside world, Kunming International Dry Port and Anning North Port are relying on international channels such as the China-Laos Railway to gradually improve the logistics system connecting South Asia and Southeast Asia. The successful operation of the "Kunming Dry Port" not only provides logistics guarantee for the construction of open platforms such as the South China Expo, but also lays a solid foundation for wider international economic and trade cooperation in the future.

In the future, the "Kunming Dry Port" will continue to give full play to the advantages of efficient, convenient and stable intermodal transportation, promote the infrastructure interconnection between China and neighboring countries, and promote the development of regional economic integration. With the continuous optimization of this international logistics channel, the "fruits" of regional cooperation will be more fruitful, providing more efficient and reliable logistics options for the global supply chain(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
