Indonesian President Prabowo stated that the power battery full industry chain project in cooperation with Chinese companies will help Indonesia become the first Southeast Asian country to achieve integrated battery production, promoting economic growth and energy transformation.
Indonesia's power battery full industry chain project officially launched
On June 29th, Indonesian President Prabowo attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Indonesian Power Battery Ecosystem Project in Karawang Industrial New City, West Java Province. He stated that the project will make Indonesia the only country in Southeast Asia with the ability to integrate the production of power batteries from upstream to downstream, and emphasized his willingness to work closely with Chinese partners to jointly promote this strategic project.
Covering the entire industry chain with a total investment of 5.9 billion US dollars
The Indonesian Power Battery Ecosystem Project is jointly invested and constructed by the Indonesian state-owned mining company, Indonesian battery company, and China Ningbo Puqin Times Co., Ltd., with a total investment scale of 5.9 billion US dollars. The project is located in East Hamahira County, North Maluku Province, Indonesia and Karawan City, West Java Province, covering a complete industrial chain including laterite nickel ore mining, pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, battery material production, battery recycling, and battery manufacturing.
Promote energy independence and economic transformation
Prabowo pointed out in his speech that extending the industrial chain of converting nickel resources into electric vehicle batteries will not only help enhance Indonesia's energy independence, but also bring significant economic benefits. He stated that developing downstream industries is a crucial strategic measure to achieve Indonesia's 8% economic growth target, and the downstream of nickel resources will drive the comprehensive development of other mineral resources.
Annual production capacity meets the demand for 300000 electric vehicles
Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bakhril Rahadalya, revealed at the ceremony that after completion, the project will have an annual production capacity that can meet the battery needs of 300000 electric vehicles and create approximately 35000 job opportunities. He emphasized that the project is in line with the Indonesian government's strategic plan to promote regional balanced development and will further optimize the country's industrial layout.
This cooperation marks a major breakthrough in the field of new energy in Indonesia, as well as another milestone in China Indonesia economic and trade cooperation under the the Belt and Road framework.
