On July 5, 2025, the world's largest power-side electrochemical energy storage project undertaken by China Power Construction Corporation - 1 million kW/6 million kWh power-side energy storage project in Chayouzhong Banner, Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia, officially started.

The project is located in Chayouzhong Banner, Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with an average altitude of 1,700 meters and an annual sunshine of 3,014 hours. The project is constructed by the 16th Hydropower Bureau of PowerChina, and the main construction content includes 1,200 sets of 5.016 MWh lithium iron phosphate energy storage battery compartments, 4 sets of 220 kV main transformers, and a new 220 kV line connected to the 500 kV substation in Chayouzhong.

The project adopts advanced lithium iron phosphate energy storage technology, integrates converter booster system and energy management system, and has the ability to independently participate in power grid frequency and peak regulation, power market trading and capacity compensation, and can realize multiple functions such as peak shaving and valley filling, load tracking, etc.

After the completion of the project, the annual peak regulation capacity will reach 2.16 billion kWh, which will effectively alleviate the pressure of wind and solar abandonment at the Ulanqab New Energy Base, significantly improve the stability of the power grid, and add flexible adjustment resources to the Inner Mongolia power grid.
