On July 5, 2025, a joint venture composed of China Energy Construction China Power Engineering International, East China Electric Power Design Institute and Hunan Thermal Power Construction Co., Ltd. officially signed an early working agreement with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) in Oman for the early work of the Ibri 3 photovoltaic energy storage power station project in Oman, marking the official entry of this major new energy project into the performance stage. With a total installed capacity of 500MWac PV and 150MWh energy storage systems, the project is another important new energy project won by CEEC in the Middle East.

The project is located in the city of Ibri, Dhahirah region, northwest of Oman, about 300 kilometers from the capital Muscat. The project includes the construction of a 500MWac photovoltaic power station, a 150MWh energy storage system, a 400kV booster station and two 400kV transmission lines. The joint venture will undertake the EPC general contracting work of the project, giving full play to the advantages of the whole industry chain in the field of new energy.

As a key renewable energy project in Oman, the Ibri 3 power station is expected to generate 900 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually after completion, which can meet the electricity needs of about 300,000 local households and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 800,000 tons per year. The project will use China's self-developed high-efficiency bifacial photovoltaic modules and intelligent operation and maintenance system, and be equipped with advanced energy storage solutions to ensure the stability and reliability of power output.

The relevant person in charge of China Energy Construction said that the signing of the project is an important achievement of the company's implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, and it is also another example of China's new energy technology and services being internationally recognized. The project team will give full play to the technical advantages of the members of the consortium to ensure the high-quality construction of the project and contribute Chinese wisdom and solutions to Oman's energy transition.

Industry experts pointed out that the project will not only help Oman achieve its 2030 renewable energy development target, but also lay a solid foundation for Chinese new energy companies to further explore the Middle East market. With the progress of the project, China's advanced clean energy technology and engineering management experience will be more widely promoted and applied in the Middle East.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
