China's energy storage industry has once again reported good news - Haichen Energy Storage today officially won the bid for the 1,000MW/4,000MWh battery energy storage system project of Saudi Electric Power Company (SEC), with a total order amount of US$364 million (about 2.639 billion yuan). This is another major order obtained by Chinese energy storage companies in Saudi Arabia after BYD and Sungrow, demonstrating the competitive advantage of China's energy storage technology in the Middle East market.

It is reported that the project includes two 500MW/2000MWh energy storage power stations, Tabuk-1 BSP in Tabuk province in western Saudi Arabia and Hail 2 BSP in central Hair province. Haichen Energy Storage will be responsible for providing a full set of battery energy storage systems and long-term operation and maintenance services, and Alfanar Projects, a local Saudi company, will undertake the project construction. After the completion of the project, it will significantly improve the stability of Saudi Arabia's power grid and the capacity of renewable energy consumption.

As the largest economy in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia is actively promoting the "Vision 2030" energy transition strategy. Since the beginning of this year, Chinese energy storage companies have made continuous breakthroughs in the Saudi market: in February, BYD Energy Storage signed the world's largest grid-side energy storage project of 2.5GW/12.5GWh; In July, Sungrow reached a 7.8GWh energy storage system supply agreement with Saudi EPC company Algihaz Holding. Coupled with the 4GWh project of Haichen Energy Storage, Chinese companies have won more than 24GWh of bidding capacity in the Saudi energy storage market.

The explosive growth of Saudi Arabia's energy storage market stems from its energy restructuring needs. With the rapid increase in the installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation, supporting energy storage facilities have become the key to ensuring the stability of the power grid. With mature technical solutions, rich project experience and competitive prices, Chinese energy storage companies are forming cluster advantages in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East market.

Haichen Energy Storage said that the project will use the company's latest generation of energy storage battery technology, which has the characteristics of high safety, long life and high efficiency, and can adapt to the harsh environment of high temperature and drought in Saudi Arabia. The successful implementation of the project will provide an important demonstration for the promotion and application of China's energy storage technology in the Middle East, helping Saudi Arabia achieve the goal of 50% renewable energy generation by 2030.
