The construction ceremony of the Mieso Dire Dawa Expressway project in Ethiopia, undertaken by Chinese enterprises, was officially held on August 19th in Dire Dawa, the second largest city in Ethiopia. Government representatives including Deputy Prime Minister Temegan Tiroune and Chinese enterprise leaders attended the ceremony.

In his speech, Temegan Tiroune emphasized that a well-developed road infrastructure is an important driving force for the country's socio-economic development. Currently, over 90% of personnel and goods in Ethiopia rely on road transportation. This highway will connect Oromia Region, Somalia Region, and Deradawa Special Administrative City, significantly promoting economic, social, and cultural exchanges between regions.

The project is jointly constructed by China Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd. and Sichuan Road and Bridge Group. The total length of the route is about 144 kilometers, divided into two sections, and the expected construction period is 4 years.

Chen Sichang, General Manager of China Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd., stated that the expressway is not only an important infrastructure for promoting regional connectivity in East Africa and supporting the economic and social development of Ethiopia, but also a practical manifestation of China Ethiopia cooperation, consultation, and shared prosperity. He pointed out that the proportion of local employees in the project team will reach 75%, and through the "mentorship" training program, Ethiopian engineers will be helped to master international advanced engineering technology, committed to cultivating a sustainable local transportation construction team, and truly achieving the goal of "teaching people how to fish".

According to the owner unit Ethiopian Roads Authority, Deradawa is located in the eastern part of Ethiopia, adjacent to Djibouti. The construction of this highway will strengthen the connectivity between the region and Djibouti Port, not only helping to reduce logistics costs and improve transportation efficiency, but also further optimizing the regional investment environment and enhancing trade and investment attractiveness.
