The Qatar Public Works Authority (Ashghal) recently issued a tender contract, inviting construction companies to participate in bidding, aiming to complete the remaining road and infrastructure projects in the seaside town of Smaima. The contract for this tender focuses on the second package project in the southern region of Smaisma, 52 kilometers north of Hamad International Airport.

The scope of work for this project is extensive, covering the remaining and remedial works in three areas, each of which is further subdivided into three sub areas, as well as the remaining work for the C1017 road. The contract period is set to two years from the start of construction. The bidding was officially released on September 15th, and the deadline for bidding is October 28th. It is worth mentioning that the latest notice was issued after the bidding for road and infrastructure construction in the northern part of Wadi Albant (District 70).

Looking back at the development history of Qatar's construction and transportation sector, the number of contract awards has shown a continuous year-on-year decline since 2019. In 2019, the total value of contract awards reached 13.5 billion US dollars, but by 2023, this number had significantly decreased to a level slightly above 1.2 billion US dollars. However, the market saw a turning point in 2024, with the value of project contracts awarded increasing to $1.7 billion, successfully reversing the downward trend of the market in the previous four years. Among them, the construction industry accounted for over 1.2 billion US dollars in contract awards and approximately 200 million US dollars in transportation contract awards in last year's data.

Currently, Qatar is in the bidding stage for strategic projects worth over 5 billion US dollars. These projects are of great significance and are expected to inject new vitality into the construction and transportation markets, creating numerous opportunities for contractors in the near future. With the advancement of the bidding for the Smaima road and infrastructure projects, as well as the gradual implementation of more strategic projects, Qatar's construction and transportation sectors are expected to usher in new development peaks, further promoting the improvement of national infrastructure and economic growth.
