Recently, India's railway construction has seen a series of new developments. Railway projects in multiple states have been approved by the federal cabinet, covering track laying, new line construction, and train introduction, aiming to enhance freight and passenger capacity and improve transportation networks.

In the eastern state of Bihar, the Federal Cabinet Economic Affairs Committee has approved the double laying project of the 104 kilometer track on the Bakhtipur Rajig Tileya line. The project costs 21.5 billion Indian rupees (approximately 242.1 million US dollars) and is part of the Prime Minister's' GatiShakti National Master Plan '. After providing the second track, it is expected that the annual freight volume will increase by 26 million tons, including coal, clinker, fly ash, and cement. For passengers, this project can improve connectivity with religious centers such as Rajig, Nalanda, and Pawanuri, increase capacity, and alleviate congestion.
Prior to the November Bihar state elections, Railway Minister Ashwani Vashna announced the implementation of multiple projects in the state. The federal cabinet will soon approve the project to lay a third track on the 53 kilometer long line from Bagarpur to Jamalpur, with a cost of 11.6 billion rupees. At the same time, the cabinet is expected to soon approve a project worth 30 billion rupees, which will provide a second track on the 177 kilometer line between Bagrapur and Lampurhat in the neighboring state of West Bengal.
In terms of train introduction, Vashnawo announced that Indian Railways will introduce eight new trains in Bihar, including refurbished "Amir Barat" push-pull trains, five of which will be put into long-distance service and three for local routes.
Railway projects have also been approved in the northern state of Punjab. The federal cabinet has approved the construction project of an 18 kilometer new line from Rajpura to Mohari at a cost of 4.4 billion rupees, which will provide the shortest route from the state capital Chandigarh to the Ambala Amritsar main line. At present, the railway network in Punjab is 100% electrified, with 382 kilometers of new lines built in the past two years and 409 bridges constructed above and below the railway.
