Recently, Saudi Arabia's Acwa Power signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the renewable energy division of Indian industrial contracting group Larsen&Toubro (L&T), focusing on the renewable energy and grid scope of the Yanbu Green Ammonia Project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, injecting new vitality into this green energy project.

According to the memorandum, L&T will work closely with project developer Acwa Power to finalize the design and configuration plan for the renewable energy project. Once the plan is approved, L&T expects to smoothly enter the comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract phase, marking an important turning point for the project from planning to actual construction.
The Yanbu Green Hydrogen Energy Center, located in the Yanbu Industrial Park, is the core of the project. It has a grand plan aimed at fully utilizing the powerful resources of 5 gigawatts each of wind and solar energy, while equipped with a 400 kilometer long transmission line and up to 4.4 gigawatts of electrolytic cells. The green hydrogen produced will be cleverly converted into 2.5 million tons of green ammonia for export to the international market, which not only helps meet the global demand for clean energy, but also earns Saudi Arabia an important place in the international green energy market.
The system composition of this project is rich and diverse, covering solar photovoltaic, wind energy, and battery energy storage systems, as well as related substations and transmission lines, forming a complete and efficient green energy production and transmission network.

During the project progress, all parties cooperated closely and in an orderly manner. In July, Acwa Power awarded the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract to a consortium of Tecnica Reunidas from Spain and Sinopec Guangzhou Engineering Company from China. Among them, Tecnica Reunidas has been deeply involved in the pre information flow stage of the project and has accumulated rich experience; Sinopec Guangzhou Engineering Co., Ltd. joined based on the memorandum of understanding signed with Acwa Power in 2024, bringing China's technological and engineering capabilities to the project. In addition, Acwa Power has previously signed a joint development agreement with Energie Baden-W ü rttemberg (EnBW) in Germany for the Yanbu green ammonia project, further bringing together international forces.
At present, the project is steadily progressing according to plan and is expected to start commercial operation in 2030. At that time, the Yanbu Green Ammonia Project is expected to become a benchmark in the global green energy field, making important contributions to promoting global energy transformation and sustainable development.Editor/Cheng Liting
