Nigeria is making every effort to promote two major transportation infrastructure construction projects, injecting strong impetus into the country's transportation improvement and economic development.

On the one hand, a highway project worth up to 509 million US dollars is currently under construction. This project is of great significance as it closely connects the capital city of Abuja with the important northern cities of Kaduna and Kano, with a total length of approximately 700 kilometers. This highway is like an economic link, once built, it will greatly promote transportation circulation in northern Nigeria, provide convenience for trade and personnel flow between regions, and effectively promote local economic development.

The Nigerian Ministry of Engineering attaches great importance to this project and strictly requires participating contractors to complete the work strictly according to the plan. Among them, the first, second, and third sections of the project are explicitly required to be completed smoothly within 14 months according to the schedule formulated by the engineering department. This strict time requirement reflects the determination and sense of urgency of the Nigerian government to improve transportation conditions and promote economic development.

On the other hand, phased progress has also been made in the construction of the coastal road connecting Lagos and Calabar. At present, the project has invested over 10 million US dollars. However, the construction process was not smooth sailing. During the construction period, a garbage dump dating back 50 years was discovered, with a depth of 10 meters and a length of 2 kilometers, which led to the relocation of some sections of the road. At the same time, to ensure that the roadbed can withstand the weight of the highway, the contractor Hitech Construction Company also undertook additional reinforcement work. Despite facing many challenges, the construction is still steadily advancing. As of now, 35 kilometers of this 750 kilometer long route have been completed for construction. The first section connecting Lagos is expected to be successfully completed in May 2026. Keywords: foreign engineering construction news, international engineering news

The advancement of these two transportation construction projects will not only improve Nigeria's domestic transportation network and enhance transportation efficiency, but also create more opportunities for regional economic development. They are an important support for Nigeria to achieve economic takeoff and enhance national competitiveness. As the project continues to advance, Nigeria will achieve even better results in both transportation and economy.Editor/Cheng Liting
