Three bid sections of Xizang Bomi Ranwu Railway have been completed

On December 12, 2025, Xizang's transportation construction ushered in a milestone moment - the bidding results of the project in front of the Bomi Ranwu Railway Station were officially announced, and many central enterprises such as China Railway No.4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd., China Communications Second Highway Engineering Group Co., Ltd., and China Railway No.20 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. won the bid, marking that this strategic corridor in southeast Tibet has officially entered the substantive construction stage.

Challenging the Steel Dragon of the Geological Museum

The Bomi Ranwu Railway has a total length of 134.5 kilometers, starting from the under construction Bomi Station and ending at Ranwu Station in Basu County, Changdu City. The most striking feature of this railway is its extremely high construction difficulty - the bridge tunnel ratio of the entire line is as high as 83.7%, which means that more than 110 kilometers of the line need to cross tunnels or bridges. The route passes through the southeastern region of Tibet, known as the "Geological Museum", and will face multiple challenges such as complex geological conditions, high-altitude construction, and ecological environment protection.

The plan is to build 7 new stations along the entire line, with an initial opening of 5 stations, which will completely change the transportation pattern between Nyingchi Bomi and Changdu Basu. At present, the two places are mainly connected by the G318 national highway, with a travel time of about 4-5 hours, and are greatly affected by weather and geological disasters. After the railway is built, travel time will be significantly reduced and transportation capacity will be doubled.

Three major sections of flower falling strength, state-owned enterprises

This bidding is divided into three sections with fierce competition, and the final results are as follows:

The BRZQ-1 section was won by China Railway Fourth Bureau Group Co., Ltd. with a bid of 4.758 billion yuan, responsible for the construction of the section from Bomi Station (excluding) to Songzong Tunnel No.1 transverse tunnel, including the main line project, connecting line project, and Bomi East dangerous goods line project.

The BRZQ-2 section was won by China Communications Second Highway Engineering Co., Ltd. for 3.47 billion yuan. The construction scope covers from the Songzong Tunnel exit work area to the No. 2 transverse tunnel work area of the Zayn Tunnel, with the main line project as the core.

The BRZQ-3 section was obtained by China Railway 20th Bureau Group Co., Ltd. with a quotation of 5.37 billion yuan, covering the area from the No. 3 transverse tunnel work area of the Zayn Tunnel to the Ranwu Station (including), with a particularly prominent proportion of tunnel engineering.

Open up the development artery of southeastern Tibet

The construction of the Bomi Ranwu Railway has multiple strategic values. First of all, it will further improve the railway network in Xizang, fill the gap of Southeast Tibet Railway, and form a wider plateau railway network with the existing Lalin Railway and the Sichuan Tibet Railway under construction.

Secondly, this railway will greatly promote economic development along the route. The southeastern region of Tibet has abundant tourism resources, forestry resources, and mineral resources, but has long been limited in development due to transportation conditions. After the railway is opened, it will significantly reduce logistics costs, promote the export of characteristic products, and drive the development of the tourism industry.

Furthermore, this project is of great significance for improving people's livelihoods and consolidating border areas. The railway will improve the convenience of local residents' travel, strengthen the connection between border areas and the mainland, promote exchanges and integration among various ethnic groups, and help to strengthen the sense of community of the Chinese nation.

New journey of plateau railway construction

With the announcement of the winning bid results, each winning bidder will gradually enter the site to carry out construction preparation work. According to the regular schedule, the Bomi Ranwu railway is expected to achieve significant progress during the 14th Five Year Plan period. The construction experience of this railway will also provide valuable reference for subsequent high-altitude railway projects. Chinese railway builders have accumulated rich experience in high-altitude and complex geological construction in projects such as the Qinghai Tibet Railway and the Lalin Railway.
