In 2025, Mingyang Smart Energy, a leading wind power equipment manufacturer in China, announced a major overseas investment plan to build a wind power equipment manufacturing base in Scotland with a total investment of $2 billion. This project is expected to create up to 1500 job opportunities locally, marking a significant breakthrough for Chinese wind power companies in localizing their operations in Europe.
According to the plan, the project will be constructed in three phases: the first phase will invest 750 million pounds, focusing on the manufacturing of wind turbine blades and nacelles, and is expected to achieve the first batch of products offline by the end of 2028; The second phase of the project will be expanded to the manufacturing of floating offshore wind power equipment; The third phase will cover the production of control systems, electronic equipment, and other key components. At present, the factory site tends to be located near Ardersier Port in Inverness.

This investment coincides with the UK's strong push for renewable energy development, aimed at achieving its climate goals and creating a large number of clean energy jobs. This investment by Mingyang Smart Energy will not only enhance Scotland's strength in wind power equipment manufacturing, but also provide important support for the development of the offshore wind power industry in the UK.
The implementation of this project will further improve the global industrial layout of Mingyang Smart Energy, showcasing the increasing competitiveness and influence of Chinese enterprises in the international clean energy field, and injecting new impetus into the cooperation between China and the UK in the field of green energy.
