The third section of the Riyadh South Second Ring Road project, undertaken by China Harbour, is steadily progressing in the desert area about 25 kilometers south of the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh. At the construction site, the spacious and flat roadbed and main road have begun to take shape, and large construction vehicles shuttle back and forth. However, in this bustling construction scene, several acacia trees stand out particularly - they are surrounded by carefully installed safety warning devices, and construction vehicles passing by will carefully navigate around them.
The Acacia tree is regarded as an important 'local green asset' by Saudi Arabia and is hailed as a 'guide on the journey in the desert,' "said Qiao Yongli, General Manager of the South Second Ring Road Project Department of China Harbour." Several trees here have a maximum age of nearly 100 years. Out of respect for Saudi Arabia's environmental protection concept, we have made minor adjustments to the main line of the project and made every effort to protect these precious natural heritages
The South Second Ring Road project, as an important infrastructure planned and constructed by Saudi Arabia's "2030 Vision" Riyadh, will significantly improve the city's transportation conditions after completion. There were originally over 20 Acacia trees distributed along the main construction line of the project, which have special significance in the arid ecosystem of Saudi Arabia. To properly protect these 'desert guardians', the project team hired a professional team to develop scientifically rigorous technical solutions for each tree.

We have adopted professional transplantation techniques that meet the local climate conditions, "said Wang Yi, the relevant person in charge of the China Port South Second Ring Project." We ensure that every tree can grow healthily. Ecological environmental protection is an indispensable and important component of our engineering project construction, and it is also our social responsibility. "With the careful care of the project team, 21 Acacia trees have been successfully transplanted to the new home. For those trees that are difficult to transplant, the team has also developed special support plans.
Local employee Walid praised the project highly: "This project will not only greatly alleviate the traffic pressure in Riyadh and provide transportation support for important events such as the 2025 World Expo and World Cup, but also move us by the project's emphasis on ecological protection, preserving a precious green for us
This project with significant total investment is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2025, followed by a 12-month warranty period. Chinese builders have proved with practical actions that infrastructure construction and ecological environment protection can coexist in harmony, setting a new benchmark for the sustainable development of countries along the the Belt and Road.
