Recently, the annual production of 480000 tons of green fertilizer and supporting geothermal power station project invested, constructed and operated by China Kaishan Group has officially started construction in Nakuru County, Kenya. The total investment of this project is about 800 million US dollars, which is the first green fertilizer production project implemented by a Chinese enterprise in Kenya, marking an important step forward in the cooperation between China and Kenya in the fields of clean energy and sustainable agricultural development.

This project is based on Kenya's abundant geothermal resources and is committed to producing green ammonia and its derivative products, such as urea and calcium ammonium nitrate, as green fertilizers. This layout not only achieves clean and efficient utilization of energy, but also promotes the low-carbon transformation of local agricultural inputs, forming a complete industrial chain of "geothermal power generation green ammonia synthesis green fertilizer".
Kenyan President William Ruto pointed out at the groundbreaking ceremony on November 3 that the project will effectively address the long-term challenges faced by Kenyan farmers, such as unstable fertilizer supply and high price fluctuations, and help improve the country's agricultural productivity and ensure food security. He emphasized that by localizing the production of fertilizers, Kenya will reduce its dependence on foreign imports, save foreign exchange reserves, and enhance its ability to cope with the impact of the international fertilizer market.
Kenyan Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Opiyo Wandayi, further stated that the project is highly aligned with the country's medium - to long-term development strategy and is one of the key measures to promote Kenya's transition to a green economy. It will effectively promote the coordinated development of energy structure optimization and agricultural modernization.
Cao Kejian, Chairman of Kaishan Holdings Group Co., Ltd., stated in his speech that as the project implementer, Kaishan Group will fully leverage its technological advantages in the fields of energy and equipment manufacturing to ensure high-quality construction and stable operation of the project. He pointed out that after the completion of the project, it will help alleviate the food security problems caused by fertilizer shortage in Africa through continuous and reliable fertilizer supply, and inject new green momentum into the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" between China and Africa. Industry analysis believes that this project not only reflects the increasing emphasis of Chinese enterprises on the combination of green technology and local demand in overseas investment, but also provides a replicable cooperation paradigm for African countries to utilize their advantages in renewable energy and promote coordinated development of agriculture and industry. With the gradual implementation of the project, Kenya is expected to become a model for the coordinated development of green agriculture and clean energy in East Africa.Editor/Cheng Liting
