Recently, the bidding results for the core section of the national water network backbone project - Guxian Reservoir Irrigation Area Project in Henan Province were officially announced. Strong enterprises such as China Construction Seventh Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd. (referred to as "China Construction Seventh Bureau") successfully won the bid, marking that this major water conservancy project with a total investment of 8.344 billion yuan and benefiting 2 cities and 6 counties (districts) has entered the substantive construction stage. As a key water conservancy project in Henan Province during the 14th Five Year Plan period, the project will focus on "diverting resources to moisten western Henan", solving the problem of regional water shortage, and empowering agricultural efficiency and high-quality economic development.

The construction strength of the core section's Hualuo master is highly recognized

The bidding announcement shows that China Construction Seventh Engineering Bureau, with its rich experience in water conservancy engineering, full industry chain service capabilities, and competitive technical solutions, has successfully won the second bid for the construction of the 7th, 9th, and 15th main canals. The winning bid amount is 114 million yuan, with a construction period of 18 months, and the quality standards must comply with relevant national and industry regulations. This section is led by Sun Maoguan, a first level registered constructor of water conservancy and hydropower engineering, and will focus on promoting the excavation of branch canals, pipeline laying, and the construction of supporting buildings, laying the foundation for the subsequent connection of the canal system.

At the same time, companies such as China Hydropower Engineering Corporation Limited have also successfully won bids for other core sections, with a bid amount exceeding 300 million yuan. Each winning bidder will work together to promote the construction of the project. The bidding party, Luoyang Guxian Reservoir Irrigation Area Construction and Development Co., Ltd., stated that the winning bidders have strong technical strength, a sound quality control system, and rich experience in large-scale water conservancy project construction, which will provide solid guarantees for the high-quality promotion of the project.

The project has a grand scale covering the water network of 2 cities and 6 counties (districts)

As a large (2) type irrigation area project (Class II project), the construction content of the county reservoir irrigation area project covers a complete water conservancy system of "canal system+buildings": planning and arranging 27 branch canals and above, with a total length of 277.56 kilometers, including 1 water intake project (7.18 kilometers), 1 main canal (about 109.55 kilometers), and 25 branch canals (160.83 kilometers). 464 supporting buildings will be constructed along the line, including inlet towers, stabilizing towers, 37 types of water gates, 32 sections of tunnels, 15 aqueducts, 37 inverted siphons, and 22 pumping stations, forming an integrated water network of "diversion, transportation, distribution, and use".

The project covers Luoning County, Yiyang County, Xin'an County, Jianxi District of Luoyang City, Mianchi County and Yima City of Sanmenxia City, benefiting 21 townships and 171 administrative villages. The designed irrigation area is 642000 mu (including 584700 mu of arable land and 57000 mu of garden land), and the annual average water diversion after completion can reach 139 million cubic meters, which will completely solve the irrigation problem of 642000 mu of "Wangtian Tian" in the region.

Technological breakthroughs have been made to accelerate the construction of intelligent equipment

In response to the difficulties in engineering construction, the project team has introduced cutting-edge technology and intelligent equipment to accelerate and empower the construction process. At the core of the water intake project, the double shield TBM "Luoshui No.1" has officially started. This "steel giant" with a total length of 145 meters and a weight of about 950 tons will undertake the excavation task of a 6970 meter water conveyance tunnel, diverting water from the east side of Guxian Reservoir to the left bank of Chongyang River and connecting it to the main canal. Faced with complex geological conditions such as high-strength andesite, maximum burial depth of 324 meters, and fault fracture zones along the route, "Luoshui No.1" is equipped with a high thrust system, optimized tool spacing, and advanced drilling and grouting functions, which can effectively prevent risks such as collapse, water influx, and rock burst, ensuring safe and efficient long-distance single head excavation.

At present, the construction of the project has been fully accelerated: more than half of the excavation and support construction of the inlet tower slope, and more than 1100 meters of pipelines have been laid in the 7, 9, and 15 main canals. "Luoshui No.1" is expected to complete 1 kilometer of shield tunneling in the short term, and the branch canal project will be promoted synchronously for 5 kilometers. The overall construction will strictly follow the 48 month total construction period plan and proceed in an orderly manner.

As a national water network backbone project included in the Yellow River Comprehensive Basin Plan, the promotion of the county reservoir irrigation area project is not only an important breakthrough in Henan Province's water conservancy construction, but also a vivid practice of implementing the ecological protection and high-quality development strategy of the Yellow River Basin. With the comprehensive construction of winning bidders such as China Construction Seventh Engineering Bureau, it is expected that the project will be fully completed and put into use by 2028. At that time, a new water conservancy pattern of "connected rivers and reservoirs, vertical and horizontal canal networks, and orderly irrigation and drainage" will be formed, injecting stable "water kinetic energy" into the western Henan region.Editor/Bian Wenjun
