China Railway Third Institute recently won the bid for the construction drawing review of the Foshan Guangzhou Dongguan intercity railway project, with a bid amount of 21.313 million yuan. This important progress marks a substantial breakthrough in the construction of the first east-west urban express line in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, which will effectively promote the interconnection of transportation infrastructure in the Greater Bay Area.

Project Overview: Major Transportation Projects in the Greater Bay Area

The Foshan Guangzhou Dongguan intercity railway is a key backbone line in the intercity railway network of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. It starts from Luzhou Station in Shunde, Foshan in the west and ends at Songshan Lake in Dongguan in the east, with a total length of about 107 kilometers and a total investment of about 95.3 billion yuan. It is currently the largest intercity project in the Greater Bay Area. The line adopts a fully underground laying method, with a total of 28 stations, including 7 stations in the Foshan section, 13 stations in the Guangzhou section, and 8 stations in the Dongguan section. It uses 8-car D-type trains with a designed speed of 160 kilometers per hour for the city area.

Significance: Creating a 'Golden Corridor'

After the completion of this project, it will achieve rapid 30 minute mutual access between the central areas of Guangzhou, Foshan, and Dongguan for the first time, creating an east-west "golden corridor" in the Greater Bay Area. The line will seamlessly transfer with multiple rail transit lines such as the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong high-speed railway, the Foshan Dongguan Huizhou intercity railway, and the Guangzhou subway, building a more comprehensive regional transportation system and effectively promoting the convenient flow of talent, technology, capital, and other factors within the Greater Bay Area.

Construction progress: Multi party participation and collaborative promotion

In addition to the construction drawing review work won by China Railway Third Engineering Group Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Metro Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. has previously won the bid for the synchronous implementation of engineering design general contracting for the Guangzhou Foshan section complex for 11.85 billion yuan, setting a record for the highest single contract amount in the domestic intercity design field. This section is responsible for the construction drawing design tasks of 17 underground stations, sections, parking lots, vehicle depots, and overlying development. The contract period will continue until the completion and acceptance of the project. Keywords: Traffic Engineering Construction News, Traffic Engineering Information Platform

Future outlook: Promoting regional integration

Industry experts point out that as a key infrastructure project in the Greater Bay Area, the construction of the Foshan Guangzhou Dongguan intercity railway will significantly improve commuting efficiency in Guangzhou, Foshan, and Dongguan, further strengthening the radiating and driving role of core cities. As the project continues to advance, it is expected that more sections will be opened in the future. Each professional design unit will participate in the project construction based on their own advantages, jointly ensuring the high-quality and efficient progress of this major project, and providing solid transportation support for the construction of the world-class urban agglomeration in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.
