The Mexican National Railway Program has reached an important milestone - the construction of the new 393.9 kilometer Gulf of Mexico line officially began on November 7th, marking the substantial construction phase of this ambitious plan to restore long-distance passenger services nationwide.

This new railway artery connecting Saltillo, Monterey to the US border state of Nuevo Leon will adopt an innovative "passenger and freight separation" model. The newly built monorail line will specifically serve passenger demand and be built in parallel with the existing freight lines in Pacific Kansas City, Canada (CPKC). This design not only ensures passenger efficiency, but also ensures smooth access of CPKC freight trains to freight stations and docks by setting up a 2.5-kilometer-long transit loop every 20 kilometers, achieving harmonious coexistence of passenger and freight transportation.
According to engineering technical indicators, the line will construct 52 new railway bridges and 42 horizontal intersections, and set up three modern stations in Nuevo Laredo, Anawak, and Naranho. According to the design, the maximum speed of the train will reach 160-200 kilometers per hour, reducing the travel time from Monterey to Nuevo Laredo to less than 2 hours, and from Saltillo to Nuevo Laredo to only 3.5 hours, greatly improving regional traffic efficiency.
The new line in the Gulf of Mexico, as a key project in the first phase of the national railway plan, also includes five other key sections: Delamadro Ramos Arequipe (54.1 kilometers), Ramos Arequipe Santa Catarina state (63.3 kilometers), etc. At the same time, another important project in the first phase, the 1078 kilometer long Queretaro Irapuato line, is also actively being promoted.
This plan, with a total investment expected to reach billions of dollars, ultimately aims to reintroduce long-distance passenger services on the country's over 3400 kilometer trunk network. At the groundbreaking ceremony, the Mexican Minister of Transport stated, "This is not only an upgrade of transportation infrastructure, but also a strategic investment in regional economic integration. The new railway will effectively alleviate the pressure on road transportation, promote tourism development, and strengthen the economic ties between Mexico and the United States. Key words: foreign construction news, international news

It is expected that by 2028, when the entire line is opened, the new Gulf of Mexico line will become an important passage connecting the manufacturing hub of Monterey with Texas, injecting new impetus into reshaping the transportation pattern in North America. With the continuous progress of subsequent projects, Mexico is proving through practical actions that railway passenger transportation, which once faded out of people's sight, is returning to the core position of the national transportation system with a new attitude.Editor/Cheng Liting
