To optimize the transportation network of the capital gateway, Bahrain is vigorously promoting the upgrading project of key roads around its international airport. As an important component of the third phase A development plan for Bahrain Airport, this project is jointly constructed by a consortium of local enterprise Nas Contracting and Saudi Arabian company Nassir Hazza and Brothers, and has received special support from the Saudi Development Fund. The project aims to significantly improve the transportation efficiency to and from the airport, creating a more convenient travel experience for passengers and regional residents.

The core goal of this road renovation is to directly address the congestion pain points of the current airport connecting roads. After the completion of the project, the road capacity will achieve a leapfrog improvement, significantly increasing from the current level to a design capacity of 16000 vehicles per hour. Of particular importance is the construction of a dedicated free left turn interchange at the intersection of the Halifax El Kabir and Arad highways, where traffic pressure is concentrated. This design will effectively eliminate traffic conflicts at this node and achieve seamless and fast passage of traffic flow.

The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning of Bahrain emphasizes that this upgrade is an inevitable step in response to regional development. With the continuous growth of population around the airport and in areas such as Arad, the number of vehicle registrations is rapidly increasing, and the existing road infrastructure is no longer able to cope. This upgrade is not only to serve airport passengers, but also a strategic measure to alleviate the traffic pressure in the entire region.

The road project is closely linked to the overall expansion strategy of Bahrain International Airport. The third phase of airport development aims to increase its annual passenger throughput to 14 million and significantly enhance its cargo handling capacity. Smooth ground transportation is a prerequisite for ensuring the efficient operation of aviation hubs. This new "transportation artery" will directly support the airport's grand blueprint and strengthen Bahrain's competitiveness as an important aviation and logistics center in the Gulf region. Through this significant investment supported by the Saudi Development Fund, Bahrain once again demonstrates its determination to enhance its critical infrastructure level. It is expected that after the completion of the project, the travel time to and from the airport will be significantly reduced, and the experience of regional commuters will be fundamentally improved.Editor/Cheng Liting
