In the wave of accelerating the transformation of the global energy structure towards clean and low-carbon, the renewable energy sector in the Philippines has added another heavyweight layout. Recently, NexGen Energy Company in the Philippines officially announced that it will invest $2.5 billion to build three large-scale onshore wind power projects with a total installed capacity of 1.7 gigawatts. The successful completion of this iconic project not only demonstrates the company's determination to deeply cultivate the clean energy track, but also injects strong green momentum into the Philippines to alleviate energy supply pressure and achieve the goal of "carbon neutrality".
As one of the countries in Southeast Asia with rapidly growing energy demand, the Philippines has long faced problems such as high dependence on traditional energy and insufficient power supply stability. Developing renewable energy has become a key path to solving the energy crisis. The three onshore wind power projects planned by NexGen Energy are precisely located in areas with excellent wind energy resources, and will maximize the potential of green energy through large-scale development and intensive construction. Among them, the Xin Yi Shi Xia Lu wind power project has an installed capacity of 500 megawatts and a site area of 9234 hectares. It will build a 15 kilometer long 230 kV transmission line to connect to the Sampalok substation. Currently, it has successfully obtained relevant permits from the Philippine Department of Energy, laying a solid foundation for the project's construction; The Samaru wind power project, with an installed capacity of 600 megawatts and a site selection scale of 16929 hectares, has become the "volume responsibility" among the three projects. It will be connected to the Victoria substation through a 138 kV transmission line to further improve the regional power grid layout; Although the specific name of the third project has not been disclosed, its 600 MW installed capacity complements the first two projects and together constitutes the largest onshore wind power development plan in the Philippines in recent years.

From the perspective of project planning, this $2.5 billion investment will focus on core aspects such as wind turbine equipment procurement, transmission line construction, and operation and maintenance system construction. NexGen Energy will rely on advanced international wind power technology and engineering management experience, combined with local geographical and climatic conditions in the Philippines for customized design, to ensure that the project achieves a win-win situation of ecological protection and sustainable development while improving energy supply efficiency. During the project construction process, strict adherence to Philippine environmental standards and international green construction norms will be followed. Ecological sensitive areas will be avoided through scientific site selection, and low impact construction techniques will be adopted to reduce damage to surrounding vegetation and landforms. Simultaneously, vegetation restoration and ecological restoration work will be promoted to ensure the harmonious coexistence of clean energy development and natural ecological protection.
The implementation and promotion of the project will bring multiple development dividends to the Philippines. In terms of energy supply, the annual power generation of the three projects is expected to reach billions of kilowatt hours after completion, which can effectively replace traditional fossil fuel power generation, meet the electricity needs of millions of households and industrial users, and significantly improve the stability and cleanliness of the Philippine power system. At the level of economic development, the project construction phase will create a large number of direct and indirect employment opportunities, covering multiple fields such as engineering construction, equipment installation, and logistics support. At the same time, it will drive the development of local supporting industries such as steel, cables, and engineering machinery, injecting new vitality into the regional economy. In terms of sustainable development, the project can reduce a large amount of carbon dioxide emissions every year, help the Philippines fulfill its international climate commitments, promote the transformation of energy structure towards low-carbon and green, and provide practical examples for the development of renewable energy in Southeast Asian countries.

The relevant person in charge of the Philippine Department of Energy stated that the completion of NexGen Energy's three onshore wind power projects is an important milestone in the development of the renewable energy industry in the Philippines, which is in line with the national energy development strategy and the long-term goal of "carbon neutrality". The government will continue to optimize the business environment, provide policy support and convenient services, and ensure the smooth progress of projects. NexGen Energy has revealed that the project has entered a critical stage of early preparation, and will accelerate construction and strive to achieve grid connected power generation as soon as possible, contributing to the energy transformation of the Philippines.
With the implementation of this $2.5 billion clean energy project, the onshore wind power industry in the Philippines will usher in a golden period of large-scale development. Guided by the concept of green development, we believe that more companies will participate in the wave of renewable energy development in the Philippines in the future, jointly promoting the upgrading of regional energy structure and illuminating the new journey of economic and social development in the Philippines with clean electricity.Editor/Bian Wenjun
