In the depths of the North Sea, the Captain oil field, which has been continuously producing oil for nearly thirty years, is ushering in a new round of technological upgrades. Recently, TechnipFMC, a global leader in energy engineering, announced that it has been awarded an important contract by Ithaca Energy to provide design, manufacturing, and installation services for flexible risers, subsea pipelines, and related subsea hardware for its North Sea Captain oil field development project in the UK. The contract value ranges from $75 million to $250 million. This marks another solid step for this mature oil field in pursuing higher recovery rates.

Captain Oilfield deploys new generation flexible riser solution
Since its commissioning in 1997, the Captain oil field has not stopped developing. Through multiple technological upgrades and renovations, this oil field located in Outer Morey Bay continues to radiate vitality. In 2024, TechnipFMC supported the enhanced oil recovery phase project of the oilfield. This collaboration once again focuses on optimizing oilfield layout and further increasing crude oil production by providing advanced flexible riser and subsea pipeline solutions, reflecting the industry trend of long-term and sustained investment in mature oilfield assets.
TechnipFMC and Ithaca Extend Ten Year Partnership
According to the contract, TechnipFMC will provide key flexible riser and subsea pipeline systems for the Captain oilfield. Jonathan Landes, the president of the company's underwater business, pointed out that based on their cooperation experience in multiple underwater development projects over the past decade, especially their joint work around the Captain oil field, they were able to design a flexible riser solution that can optimize layout and increase production. This cooperation is not only a supply of equipment, but also a deep practice of exploring the potential of oil fields through technological innovation.

Mature oil fields achieve production growth through innovative technology
This cooperation goes beyond the scope of a single project and is a further deepening of the long-term strategic partnership between the two parties. Landes stated that TechnipFMC looks forward to consolidating its partnership with Ithaca Energy through this collaboration and supporting its future development and expansion goals. Against the backdrop of the energy industry's focus on improving existing asset efficiency and energy security, such cooperation based on long-term mutual trust and technical expertise is becoming an important model for promoting sustainable development of offshore oil fields.
