In the current wave of high-speed railway construction in Southeast Asia, a precise steel rail drawing has become a key puzzle for industrial upgrading. On a certain morning in 2027, as a brand new high-speed train was about to speed through the land of Vietnam, the 100 meter steel rails beneath its feet may have come from a local factory - Vietnam's Hofa Group, which launched the construction of Southeast Asia's first high-speed rail factory in the Rongju Economic Zone of Quang Tri Province. This is not only the foundation of a factory, but also an important signal for a country to move towards the self-reliance of the railway industry.
European equipment builds a production capacity of 700000 tons
Vietnam Development Group recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for high-speed rail and special steel mills in Rongju Economic Zone, Guangyi Province. The total investment of the project exceeds 10 trillion Vietnamese dong, about 380 million US dollars, covers an area of nearly 15 hectares, and has a designed annual production capacity of 700000 tons. This project introduces advanced production lines from Germany's Westmark Group and the UK's Prudential Metallurgical Technology Company, using an ultra high precision four roll rolling mill system, with core equipment manufactured in Germany. The production line is equipped with advanced quality control systems such as laser scanning and ultrasonic testing, capable of producing high-speed rail rails up to 100 meters in length. The project plans to launch the first batch of products in 2027, making it the first enterprise in Southeast Asia to have the production capacity of high-speed rail rails.

The product is synchronized with the three major international standards
The most significant technical feature of this project is the ability to produce high-speed railway rails that meet the three major international standards of China, Europe, and Japan simultaneously. This "one-stop" standard compatibility capability enables Vietnamese produced steel rails to have the technical qualifications to participate in global market competition. The production system integrates a steel billet heating furnace, a reversible rolling mill, an automatic defect detection system, and a quenching drilling matching device, ensuring the geometric accuracy and intrinsic quality of the steel rails through strict quality control processes. This technological configuration not only meets the needs of Vietnam's local railway construction, but also lays a solid foundation for its participation in regional high-speed rail projects.
Promote the self-reliance process of Vietnam's railway industry
The Chairman of Hefa Group clearly stated at the groundbreaking ceremony that the project aims to "master core technologies and develop Vietnam's independent railway industry". This strategy is supported by the Vietnamese government's Decree No. 319, which establishes a special technology support mechanism for national key railway engineering projects. In order to cooperate with the project implementation, Hefa Group has dispatched a technical team to Europe for systematic training and conducted in-depth cooperation with German experts. Starting from 2026, the annual crude steel production capacity of the group will reach 16 million tons, ranking among the top 30 steel companies in the world. By extending into high-end special steel fields such as high-speed rail rails, Vietnam is accelerating its transformation from a major steel manufacturing country to a technological powerhouse, which is of great significance for the development of its strategic industries such as machinery manufacturing, automobiles, and energy. Keywords: Infrastructure

This project marks a crucial step for Vietnam in the high-end manufacturing industry, not only changing the current situation of Southeast Asia's dependence on imported high-speed rail rails, but also providing new supply chain options for regional infrastructure construction. With the launch of the first batch of products in 2027, the development of Vietnam's independent railway industry will enter a new stage.
