On December 29th, the inaugural ceremony of the world's first 10000 ton offshore new energy bulk carrier "Weiqiao Green Dynamic 1" was successfully held at Wudi Entrepreneurship Terminal in Tao'erhe Port District, Binzhou City, Shandong Province.       

The ship is equipped with SETHS Renewable new energy power system, funded by Weiqiao Entrepreneurship Group, designed by Wuhan University of Technology Ship Cruise Center, and built by Huanghai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. This cooperation marks another leap for SETH from inland waters to offshore areas, injecting new momentum into the green and high-quality development of electric cargo ships.

The ship has a length of 109.80 meters, a width of 26.80 meters, a depth of 7.20 meters, a carrying capacity of about 9000 tons, a speed of 11.5 knots, and adopts electric oil hybrid drive technology. It is equipped with 8 sets of containerized mobile power sources (single box battery capacity 1999.9kWh) and 2 diesel generator sets. In pure fuel mode, the range can reach 4000 nautical miles; In pure electric mode, the range is about 180 nautical miles.

SETH Hybrid Solution

SETH's "Lithium Battery+Diesel Generator" hybrid power solution combines operational flexibility and economy. The ship is propelled by the main engine and synchronously charges the battery while sailing at sea. When entering ports, emission control zones, or waterways, it can automatically switch to pure battery power supply mode, achieving nearly zero carbon emissions throughout the journey. The power system also has functions such as anti power loss support, dynamic support, peak shaving and valley filling, integrating the high efficiency of the diesel electric system with the fast response advantages of the battery system, significantly improving the overall energy efficiency and electrical safety of the ship.

The 8 sets of containerized power supplies carried on board support efficient charging and swapping, combined with the world's leading shore based charging and swapping network, which will help build a "green ecological corridor" in Binzhou Port and Tao'er River Port Area. After the ship is put into operation, it will bring significant environmental benefits. Based on 10 voyages per month, the ship is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 9000 tons and oil emissions by 2800 tons throughout the year.

In 2021, SETH, driven by innovation as its core driving force, keenly captured the new trend of ship electrification in the industry, fully invested in scientific research and production resources, and successfully developed highly competitive containerized mobile power supplies and "battery swapping technology". The company has been deeply involved in the electrification process of inland rivers in Jiangsu, Anhui, and Fujian provinces throughout the process. With strong research and development capabilities, production and manufacturing capabilities, and mature power system debugging capabilities, it has successfully delivered the first electric cargo ship in the three provinces - "Jiangyuan Baihe", "Ganghang Chuantu 01", and "Wuyi 2", setting off a "new wave" in inland shipping. In 2023, the country's first "oil to electricity" cargo ship, "Yuetong the Pearl River 001", will also be equipped with SETH power system and successfully delivered for use.       

From then on, the electrification process of inland waterway cargo ships began to accelerate comprehensively. Up to now, SETH has achieved remarkable results in the inland electric cargo ship market, with over 70 actual cases of electric cargo ships demonstrating the company's hard power. The "Weiqiao Green Dynamic 1" vessel is another masterpiece of SETH's mature cargo ship electrification technology from inland rivers to the sea, further expanding SETH's commercial ship electrification application market layout.
