According to the latest data from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the national ecological environment quality will continue to improve by 2025, with multiple key indicators reaching the best historical level, marking a new stage in China's ecological civilization construction.

The air quality is steadily improving

In 2025, the average concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in cities at the prefecture level and above in China will decrease by 3.6% year-on-year, and the proportion of excellent days will reach 88.2%, an increase of 1.5 percentage points from 2024. The improvement of air quality in key regions such as Beijing Tianjin Hebei and its surrounding areas, as well as the Yangtze River Delta, has been particularly significant, and the achievements of the "Blue Sky Defense Campaign" continue to consolidate.

Significant improvement in water environment quality

The proportion of excellent surface water quality sections in China has risen to 90.3%, while the water quality of the Yangtze River and Yellow River main streams remains excellent, and the proportion of excellent water quality in nearshore waters continues to increase. The black and odorous water bodies in cities have been basically eliminated, and the level of drinking water safety assurance has steadily improved.

Significant achievements in ecological protection and restoration

By 2025, the newly added afforestation area in China will exceed 60 million mu, and the forest coverage rate will steadily increase. New progress has been made in biodiversity conservation, and the construction of the first batch of national parks has achieved significant results. The population of over 300 rare and endangered wild animals and plants in the wild is steadily increasing.

Green and low-carbon development accelerates

The carbon peak and carbon neutrality action has been solidly promoted, with a historic breakthrough of 1.4 billion kilowatts in installed capacity of renewable energy and a steady increase in the proportion of non fossil energy consumption. The rapid development of green industries and the continuous improvement of the ecological environment governance system.
