On January 8, 2026, the 500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project located at Maritsa East 3 power plant in Bulgaria was officially put into operation.

This project is jointly built by BYD Energy Storage and ContourGlobal through strategic cooperation, and is currently one of the largest independent energy storage projects in Eastern Europe.

This is also BYD Energy Storage's largest energy storage project in Eastern Europe to date, fully demonstrating BYD Energy Storage's technological strength and global expansion.

Since the signing of the cooperation agreement in December 2024, BYD Energy Storage has relied on its technological advantages and combined with ContourGlobal's strong industry influence to jointly promote project implementation, laying a solid foundation for establishing long-term partnerships, deepening the development of the European market, and enhancing brand influence in the field of new energy in Eastern Europe.

BYD Energy Storage was invited by Antonio Cammisecra, CEO of ContourGlobal, to attend the project commissioning and ribbon cutting ceremony.

The successful operation of this project reflects the vision of both parties to jointly promote the transformation of traditional energy systems into future oriented and sustainable power systems.
