On January 28, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held talks with visiting Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Baylamov in Beijing.  

  The political decision made by the two heads of state is for China and Arab countries to become strategic partners that prioritize, rely on, and cooperate for mutual benefit. No matter how the international situation changes, China will view and develop China Arab relations from a strategic perspective, and is willing to strengthen political mutual trust, continue traditional friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen international cooperation, and work together to promote new achievements in China Arab relations.  

Wang Yi said that China appreciates the firm support provided by the Afghan side on issues related to China's core interests for a long time. We will continue to support the Afghan side in safeguarding sovereignty and vital interests, and finding a development path that is in line with our national conditions. Both sides should maintain exchanges at all levels, deepen the exchange of governance experience, promote cultural exchanges, and enhance people to people connectivity. We should strengthen the docking of development strategies, take the high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" as the guide, explore more points of convergence of interests, create more points of growth in cooperation, help the modernization of the two countries, and benefit the two peoples.  

Wang Yi stated that the world has entered a new period of turbulence and change. As countries in the global South, China and Arab countries should work together to practice true multilateralism, uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core, advocate for an equal and orderly world multipolarity, inclusive economic globalization, and promote the construction of a more just and reasonable global governance system. The Chinese side highly appreciates the work done by Azerbaijan after taking over the presidency of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, and is willing to actively support Azerbaijan in hosting this year's CICA summit.

Baylamov stated that Afghanistan China relations are based on mutual respect, mutual trust, and mutual support. Last year, the upgrading of bilateral relations injected strong momentum into strategic cooperation between the two sides.   The Afghan side has always adhered to the One China principle, firmly condemned "Taiwan independence", and is willing to take the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year as an opportunity to closely engage in high-level exchanges, strengthen inter party exchanges, expand exchanges and cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, investment, connectivity, science and technology education, and tourism, deepen coordination and cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as the Asia Pacific Cooperation and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, promote the continuous development of Arab Chinese relations, and make greater contributions to regional peace and prosperity.
