Dubai Petroleum has officially awarded Lamprell a key engineering procurement and construction EPC contract for the expansion project of Maghram natural gas storage and processing facility. The facility is operated by Dusup and located along the Dubai Hatta Highway, making it the largest onshore gas field in Dubai.
This expansion is part of the Sunrise Development Plan under the Dubai government. Lamprell stated in the statement that the core goal of the plan is to increase natural gas production capacity to meet future expected demand and integrate renewable energy resources to benefit end-users throughout the UAE. According to the contract, Lamprell's onshore department will be fully responsible for civil engineering, pipeline support structure construction, and installation of related infrastructure.

Lamprell deepens onshore EPC strategy
As a renowned contractor in the offshore oil, gas, and wind energy sectors, Lamprell's main clients include Saudi Aramco, Adnoc, and Qatar Energy Company. Although the company was acquired and delisted from the London Stock Exchange by a consortium of Blofeld Investment Management and Algihaz Holdings in 2022, it is now fully owned by Algihaz Holdings and its business strength continues to strengthen.
Lamprell CEO Ian Prescott emphasized that the award is a key pillar of the company's strategy. He stated, 'Expanding EPC capabilities on the continent is Lamprell's core strategy, and this contract directly supports this goal.'. We are very grateful for Dubai Petroleum's long-term trust and look forward to continuing to work with this important customer. Delivering key energy infrastructure within the UAE not only enriches our onshore business portfolio, but also demonstrates local execution capabilities, laying the foundation for future market growth. ”
The history and processing technology of Dubai's largest onshore gas field
The Magnum gas field was put into operation in 1984 and has a complex geological structure, including three gas bearing layers buried at depths exceeding 10000 feet. Since 2008, the gas field has been transformed into a strategic natural gas storage facility in Dubai, with the ability to regulate the injection or extraction of gas into the reservoir based on seasonal fuel demand. In terms of processing technology, natural gas plants separate heavy hydrocarbons and formation water through cooling, depressurization, and phase separation steps. After dehydration and distillation stabilization of the remaining gas, the dry gas is directly input into the Dubai natural gas pipeline network (or pressurized according to demand), while the stable condensate is transported through pipelines to the main crude oil refining plant in Jebel Ali, Dubai. This expansion will further enhance the storage and processing efficiency of this strategic hub to meet future energy challenges.Editor/Cheng Liting
