The excavation project of the underground powerhouse of the Yalong River Lianghekou Pumped Storage Power Station, the world's largest and highest hybrid pumped storage power station under construction, led by the 14th Bureau of Hydroelectric Power and composed of the 5th Bureau of Hydroelectric Power and Chengdu Institute, has been successfully completed, achieving a major breakthrough in the key nodes of the project construction and laying a solid foundation for the subsequent progress of the project.
As the leading party of the consortium and the winning bidder for the design and construction general contracting project of the Yalong River Two estuary Hybrid Pumped Storage Power Station with China Hydropower Fifth Bureau and Chengdu Institute, China Hydropower 14th Bureau is fully responsible for project performance, procurement, construction, trial operation, maintenance before project completion acceptance and handover, as well as other related work stipulated in the contract, and is responsible for leading the general contracting project management.



The underground powerhouse is the core hub of the entire project. As the "power heart" of the power station, the construction faces multiple challenges such as high cold and oxygen deficiency, high stress, and rock fragmentation. During the construction process, the consortium adhered to the front line of construction, seized the "golden window" of dry season construction, and made every effort to overcome the complex geological construction problems in the plateau.
The successful completion of the excavation of the underground factory marks the end of the civil engineering excavation phase and the transition of construction into the installation phase of mechanical and electrical equipment. Next, the project will continue to uphold the work style of striving for excellence and overcoming difficulties, strictly control the quality and safety of the project, efficiently promote subsequent construction tasks, and assist in the early completion and operation of Lianghekou pumped storage, injecting strong impetus into the construction of China's new energy system, the achievement of the "dual carbon" goal, and the high-quality development of energy in the western Sichuan Plateau.


The Yalong River Lianghekou Pumped Storage Power Station is located on the western Sichuan Plateau at an altitude of 3000 meters. With Lianghekou Reservoir as the upper reservoir and Yagen First Class Hydropower Station Reservoir as the lower reservoir, the total installed capacity reaches 4.2 million kilowatts. It is a key project accelerated during the 14th Five Year Plan period in Sichuan Province and the first pumped storage project in Sichuan Province. It has the dual function of natural runoff power generation and pumped storage bidirectional regulation.
