Recently, the groundbreaking ceremony for the 200 meter frame wind tower was held in Jingbian, Yulin, Shaanxi. This project is the core project of the Jingbian 100000 kW wind power project, invested by Huaneng Shaanxi Jingbian Electric Power and constructed by Xi'an Construction Green Energy Construction. It adopts the prestressed framework wind power tower technology and products of Qingdao Huasizhuang.

It is reported that the project uses a 6.25-megawatt wind turbine from Yunda Corporation, paired with a 220 meter diameter impeller and a hub height of 200 meters. After the project is completed, it will refresh the height of the structural wind tower and become the tallest structural wind tower on land in Asia.

According to Wind Power World statistics, this project is also the tallest wind power tower that has officially started construction. Prior to this, Goldwind Technology and CSSC Technology respectively announced the installation of 204 meter and 200 meter hybrid towers. In 2026, the application of wind power tower technology in China is expected to break free from the stagnation of 2025 and achieve multiple breakthroughs.

The highest wind turbine tower height that has been put into operation is 190 meters, which was lifted by Far East Energy in Inner Mongolia in December 2024. Next is the 186 meter hybrid tower lifted by Sany Heavy Industry in Gansu in May 2025, and the 185 meter hybrid tower lifted by Goldwind Technology in Anhui in December 2023.

From the perspective of application, the current ultra-high wind power towers in China are mainly hybrid towers, followed by frame towers. The former is the type mainly promoted by most wind turbine manufacturers, while the latter is mainly promoted and applied by Huasizhuang.

Two types of ultra-high tower structures each have their own advantages: hybrid towers have a smaller footprint under current policy conditions, are convenient for production and transportation, and are easier to operate and maintain; The structural design, with only four legs, occupies a smaller actual area and can be installed across obstacles such as water channels and gullies, making it more lightweight. There are also views that suggest that the economic advantages of structural towers will become increasingly apparent once they reach a height of over 200 meters, while hybrid towers are more suitable for use below 200 meters unless new breakthroughs are made in the market, technology, and processes.Editor/Gao Xue
