2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, as well as the year of cultural exchanges between the two countries. In early March, political and business delegations from multiple African countries gathered in Beijing and reached a consensus at a series of economic and trade negotiations: green energy and digital economy are becoming the core tracks of China Africa cooperation.

Green energy ignites hope for Africa's development
Africa has superior renewable energy endowments, but has long faced power shortages. Chinese enterprises are building photovoltaic microgrids in mineral rich countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia, achieving 24-hour stable power supply. The 500MW/1GWh independent energy storage project led by China Energy Engineering Corporation in Egypt is the largest energy storage project in Africa and will be connected to the grid by the end of 2027. The Dehua wind power project in South Africa generates over 770 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, achieving localization of 80% of employees.
Digital economy activates new driving forces for Africa's development
Huawei and MTN have reached a strategic cooperation to promote the construction of self intelligent networks, covering approximately 700 million African users and improving network efficiency by 30%. Chinese enterprises undertake the construction of data centers in multiple countries such as Rwanda and Ethiopia. By 2025, the scale of the African e-commerce market will exceed 43 billion US dollars, and the combination of Chinese enterprise platforms, overseas warehouses, and local payment models will solve the logistics payment problem. More than 100 digital skills training sessions have been held in Central Africa to cultivate tens of thousands of young talents in Africa. Integrating data and green to create a new paradigm of cooperation
The photovoltaic microgrid provides clean power for base stations and data centers, while the AI energy management system assists in the efficient operation of green energy. On May 1, 2026, the comprehensive zero tariff policy in China and Africa will be implemented, significantly reducing the import cost of photovoltaic modules and energy storage equipment, accelerating the implementation of projects. The dual drive of green energy and digital economy has become a vivid practice in the construction of a community with a shared future for China and Africa.Editor/Gao Xue
