On March 4, 2026 local time, the South African Moi 240 MW photovoltaic project, jointly constructed by China Energy Engineering International Group and Gezhouba Group, was officially put into commercial operation. This project is currently the largest single photovoltaic power station built and put into operation by a Chinese enterprise in South Africa, marking another important achievement in the cooperation between China and South Africa in the field of clean energy.

The project is located in the Noorport area of the Northern Cape province in South Africa. The main construction content includes a 240 MW photovoltaic power plant, as well as complete engineering facilities such as supporting substations, switch stations, and transmission lines. After the project is put into operation, it is expected to generate approximately 700 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 400000 tons per year. This will effectively promote the optimization and upgrading of South Africa's energy structure, help the local area achieve green and low-carbon development, and inject green power into economic and social development. Keywords: South African photovoltaics, green and low-carbon, China South cooperation

During the project construction process, facing multiple challenges such as complex local climate, tight schedule, and local supply chain, the China Energy Construction project team adhered to refined management, scientifically formulated construction plans, strengthened coordination and cooperation among various links, strictly adhered to safety and quality standards, and successfully completed all established goals of the project. As a landmark project of China South Africa clean energy cooperation, the smooth operation of the 240 MW Moi photovoltaic project in South Africa will further deepen practical cooperation between the two sides in the field of green energy, and write a new chapter in promoting high-quality development of China South economic and trade cooperation and building a green future together.Editor/Gong Ziwei
