On March 12, 2026, deep blue photovoltaic panels shimmered in the sunlight in the heart of the Taklamakan Desert. On this day, the PetroChina Tarim Oilfield Fuman Block Photovoltaic Green Power Direct Connection Project in Aksu Shaya County was officially approved. This is PetroChina's first green power direct connection project, and also the first truly implemented integrated green power direct connection demonstration project in the domestic oil and gas industry. The sunshine of the desert is about to light up the ultra deep oil field 8000 meters underground along a dedicated route.

Desert photovoltaic direct connection to oil fields
The project is located in the hinterland of the Taklamakan Desert south of Shaya County in Aksu. With an annual sunshine duration of over 3000 hours, it is one of the regions with the richest solar energy resources in China. The 100000 kilowatt photovoltaic power station constructed as a supporting facility does not generate electricity through multi-level transmission and distribution of the public power grid, but rather delivers it point-to-point to the production load center of Fuman Oilfield through a green dedicated line. Fuman Oilfield has an annual oil and gas equivalent of over 4.6 million tons, making it the largest ultra deep oilfield in China. In the past, most of this electricity relied on thermal power, but now it finally has exclusive clean energy supply.
The proportion of green electricity has risen by 35.7%
After the project is put into operation, it can generate up to 157 million kilowatt hours of green electricity annually, directly promoting the proportion of green electricity application in Fuman Oilfield to reach 35.7%. Equivalent to replacing approximately 47300 tons of standard coal annually and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 122900 tons - this is equivalent to planting nearly 6.8 million adult green trees in the Taklamakan Desert. What's even more rare is that the project achieves synergy between energy development and ecological governance by fixing sand with photovoltaic modules and cultivating drought resistant vegetation between panels, truly realizing the development of an oil field and greening of a desert.
