Building a national water resource allocation network

The South to North Water Diversion Project, with its grand scale and cutting-edge technology, can be regarded as a monument in the history of world water conservancy. The East, Central, and West Lines each perform their respective duties and are interconnected, weaving together a century long water network that runs through the north and south, transporting the lifeline of national development.

The central line project, as the most prominent core trunk line currently, originates from the Taocha Canal head of Danjiangkou Reservoir. It splits mountains and channels, crosses the Jianghuai watershed, winds for 1431.945 kilometers, and basically relies on gravity to reach Beijing and Tianjin. The once unknown Taocha has become a world-renowned waterway. And the foundation of all of this stems from the 80000 children of Deng County, who used the most primitive tools, sacrificed 141 martyrs and suffered 2283 injuries, and bravely chiseled out the Dan Project in their oath to lead the revolution and endure the hardships of the world, setting the first monument for the Century Project.

The Eastern Route Project cleverly borrows the old route of the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal to transport water from Yangzhou Jiangdu to the north, connecting regulating lakes such as Hongze Lake and Luoma Lake. The first phase of the main line is 1466.50 kilometers long. It not only completes the spatial replacement of water resources, but also revitalizes the millennium old canal, becoming a truly golden waterway between the north and south. At the same time, the western route project is in the stage of in-depth demonstration, with a blueprint drawn up for the future to quench the thirst of water scarce areas in the upper reaches of the Yellow River and reshape the water resource pattern in the northwest.

Ensure the safety of drinking water in urban and rural areas along the route

Since December 12, 2014, the first phase of the East Central Line project has been fully connected to water, and it has been ten years since then. The cumulative water diversion of the project exceeds 76.7 billion cubic meters. This answer sheet benefits people's livelihoods, nourishes the ecology, drives development, and fully demonstrates the institutional advantages of concentrating efforts to accomplish great things.

Putting people's livelihoods first, the project safeguards the drinking water safety of 185 million people along the route, and the water supply network is extending from urban areas to rural areas, building a strong defense line for life and health. Based on ecology, the water quality of the eastern route is stable and reaches Class III surface water, while the central route maintains Class II or above throughout the year, and sometimes even reaches Class I standards, truly achieving the sustainable northward movement of a clear stream of water.

Simultaneously improving the ecological environment of rivers and lakes

Development is crucial, and the breakthrough of water resources has broken geographical limitations, supporting the GDP growth of over 16 trillion yuan in the north. The eastern route has activated the shipping of the Grand Canal, while the central route has empowered the development of Shijiazhuang's Yangtze River and the construction of Xiong'an New Area, injecting strong water power into the coordinated development of Beijing Tianjin Hebei.

The South to North Water Diversion Project has never been just a physical canal, but also a spiritual totem of the Chinese nation's perseverance and self-improvement in overcoming difficulties. From the predecessors of the Dan Project to the contemporary builders and guardians, generations of people have rooted themselves in the front line, using their youth, sweat, and even life to safeguard this thousand mile river. Assist in the coordinated development of regional economy

Ten years of water supply and ten years of empowerment; A clear stream of water, steadfast throughout one's life. This super project not only solves the urgent needs of the north, but also paves the way for harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. Standing at a new starting point, the South to North Water Transfer Project will continue to shoulder the expectations of Chinese people, provide a solid water security guarantee for Chinese path to modernization, and write a new legend of a powerful water conservancy country.Editor/Gong Ziwei
