On March 26, 2026, the candidates for the second batch of civil construction bids for the G3033 Kuitun Dushanzi Kuche Expressway Project, a key transportation project in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, were officially announced. This 393.7 kilometer long transportation artery crosses the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains, with a total bid amount of 44.2 billion yuan for five sections. From Kuitun East to Kuche East, the four major state-owned enterprises of China Construction, China Communications Construction, China Railway, and China Railway Construction, along with Shaanxi Construction, led the winning bid sections, while Sichuan Provincial Transportation Construction Group accompanied them all the way in the five bid sections. This highway, which carries the dream of interconnectivity between North and South Xinjiang, is about to enter the comprehensive construction stage.

Dust settles in five major sections

This bidding is divided into 5 sections, with a total winning bid amount of 44.2 billion yuan. The consortium of China State Construction Engineering Corporation won the bid for the KDK-TJSG-1 section for 11.364 billion yuan; The consortium of China Communications Construction Corporation won the bid for the KDK-TJSG-2 section for 12.519 billion yuan; China Railway Construction Corporation Limited consortium won the bid for KDK-TJSG-3 section with 6.889 billion yuan; China Railway Group Limited consortium won the bid for KDK-TJSG-4 section with 8.511 billion yuan; The Shaanxi Construction Machinery Construction Group consortium won the bid for the KDK-TJSG-5 section for 4.914 billion yuan. The consortium of Sichuan Provincial Transportation Construction Group ranked second in all five sections, narrowly missing out on the first place.

Crossing the North South Passage of Tianshan Mountains

The project starts from Kuitun East, connects to the existing G30 Lianhuo Expressway, and ends at Kuche East, connecting to the existing G3012 Tuhe Expressway, with a total length of approximately 393.7 kilometers. The entire bridge and tunnel project is intensive, with high technical difficulty and complex construction environment. The KDK-TJSG-2 section includes 22 bridges and 17 tunnels, including 4 extra long tunnels; The KDK-TJSG-3 section includes 6 tunnels, including 4 extra long tunnels; There are 4 Hanjite bridges and 2 extra long tunnels in the KDK-TJSG-5 section. This highway will become another expressway that crosses the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains, following the Wuwei Expressway.
