In the Ferghana Oblast of eastern Uzbekistan, a seemingly ordinary business meeting is quietly injecting new imagination into the future of this important region in Central Asia. Governor Hailulo Bozorov recently met with a delegation from China's Hebei Daocheng Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. The two sides held practical consultations on investment and cooperation in several key areas related to people's livelihoods. This is not only a dialogue between enterprises and local governments, but also a vivid epitome of the continuous deepening of local economic and trade cooperation between China and Uzbekistan under the framework of jointly building the the Belt and Road.

Three priority directions

The outcome of the talks is clear and specific. According to local media UzDaily.com, the production of smart meters, the introduction of modern water purification systems, and the modernization of pumping equipment have been identified as the three priority areas for cooperation. Both parties particularly emphasize that the equipment produced and introduced must comply with international quality standards to ensure that it can truly serve the practical improvement of local infrastructure and public utilities. The consensus after the meeting is clear: we will promote the implementation of these proposed investment projects in stages based on the principle of mutual benefit and win-win results.

For the state of Fergana, these cooperation directions precisely meet its development needs. As an important economic region of Uzbekistan, the province's GDP has reached 5.5 billion US dollars in 2024, with continuous influx of foreign investment. However, there is still significant room for upgrading infrastructure and public utilities. Especially in the fields of smart metering and water governance, there are practical gaps. The main business of Hebei Daocheng Company is intelligent instruments and water purification systems, and its technical reserves and product line are highly compatible with the needs of Fergana state, laying a solid foundation for cooperation.

Chinese technology landing

From the perspective of Chinese enterprises, this cooperation is an important step for them to expand their overseas markets and layout in Central Asia. Relying on its own technological and production capacity advantages, Hebei Daocheng plans to introduce advanced smart meter manufacturing and efficient water purification solutions into Fergana state through direct investment. This not only fills the technological and product gaps in the local relevant fields, improves the efficiency and quality of local public services, but also opens up new market growth space for the enterprise itself, achieving effective expansion of business boundaries.

Deepen local collaboration

For the state of Fergana, attracting investments from companies like Hebei Daocheng in China brings much more than just specific projects and products. More importantly, it has introduced China's technological experience and capital in related fields, which can directly contribute to the improvement of local infrastructure and the enhancement of public utility levels. This kind of cooperation helps to drive further regional economic development, create employment opportunities, and is an effective way for local governments to leverage external forces to promote their own modernization process. In the end, both sides will benefit from each other's needs and deepen and consolidate the local economic and trade cooperation between China and Ukraine.

Although this meeting is only a local business contact, it clearly reflects the increasingly close, pragmatic and efficient cooperation between China and Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries under the connection of the the Belt and Road Initiative. From macro frameworks to specific projects, from national consensus to local actions, similar cooperation is constantly bringing new opportunities and changes to the development of the regions along the route.Editor/Yang Meiling
