On April 14, 2026, at the Embassy of Vietnam in China in Beijing, ten blue covered memorandums of cooperation were exchanged one by one during the visit of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Su Lin. As ministerial level officials from both countries stood shoulder to shoulder with senior military officials, business representatives on both sides of the venue had exchanged more than one round of eye contact on the details of cooperation in fields such as railways, aviation, and digital transformation.

Ten agreements covering the entire industry chain
The memorandum signed this time spans multiple tracks, including railway construction, international multimodal transport, cross-border tourism exchange, aviation seat manufacturing, and aircraft financing leasing. Chinese enterprises will participate in the construction of Vietnam's urban rail transit and international railway logistics network. The two sides have also reached a cooperation intention on planting super bamboo on inefficient land, digitalization of corporate governance, and information system solutions. The letter of intent for leasing and financing of COMAC aircraft is also being exchanged.

Trade volume locked in 250 billion yuan
By 2025, the bilateral trade volume between China and Vietnam will reach 256.4 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of nearly 25%. China will remain Vietnam's largest trading partner, while Vietnam will be China's fourth largest trading partner. In the first two months of 2026, the momentum did not decrease, and the trade volume surged to 42.9 billion US dollars, an increase of 36.9% year-on-year. The investment side is equally impressive, with China ranking as the second largest source of foreign investment in Vietnam with a registered value of 5.96 billion US dollars, and the number of newly approved projects ranking first. Passenger flow exchange activates the cultural and tourism sector
The data in the tourism field is more penetrating. By 2025, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Vietnam will reach 5.28 million, a year-on-year increase of 41%. In the first two months of 2026 alone, the number of cross-border passenger trips has exceeded 920000, and cross-border passenger exchanges are extending from border tourism to deep vacations. This memorandum specifically includes provisions for mutual exchange of tourist sources, with the aim of converting the popularity of personnel exchanges into sustained growth in related industries such as aviation, hotels, and retail.Editor/Gao Xue
