A super power reservoir with an investment of 8.36 billion yuan has recently started construction in the mountains of Yulin, Guangxi. As a key project in the national pumped storage plan, Yulin Pumped Storage Power Station not only broke the investment record for pumped storage projects in the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, but also became the core pivot of the regional energy network with an installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts and a regulating capacity of 2.4 million kilowatts. The construction of this power station marks a crucial step in the clean energy field for the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone in Guangxi. Grid stabilizer

The power station is located at a key node in the coordinated development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone in Guangxi. The surrounding area is rich in clean energy resources, but it also faces challenges from fluctuations in new energy generation. Although the output of photovoltaic and wind power is unstable due to weather conditions, the four 300000 kilowatt units of the power station can respond quickly and provide stable support for the Yulin urban power grid, which accounts for over 90% of new energy, through bidirectional regulation of pumping and power generation. More importantly, it will provide reliable guarantees for the efficient transmission of tens of millions of kilowatts of offshore wind power bases in the Beibu Gulf and 7 million kilowatts of coastal nuclear power, ensuring that clean energy is not abandoned and achieving dynamic balance of the power grid.

Carbon Reduction Accelerator

Every hour, the power station can convert 1.2 million cubic meters of water energy into 1.2 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity, which is enough to meet the daily electricity needs of about 200000 residential users. It is expected that after being fully completed and put into operation in 2029, it can consume 2.16 billion kilowatt hours of clean energy annually, corresponding to a reduction of about 1.9 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This carbon reduction scale is equivalent to closing several coal-fired power plants or planting hundreds of millions of trees, injecting strong impetus into the energy structure transformation of Guangxi and even southern China, while helping the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area achieve carbon neutrality goals.
