On April 20, 2026, a closed door meeting was extended from the originally scheduled 40 minutes to nearly two hours in the office building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hanoi, Vietnam. The dialogue between Shi Zhongjun, Secretary General of the China ASEAN Center, and Nguyen Minh Ngoc, Executive Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam, extended from bilateral trade data to the details of the implementation of the Tourism Cooperation Year. When the news of more than 30 Chinese enterprise delegations arriving in Vietnam for inspection at the same time was brought up proactively by Nguyen Minh Yu, the heat of pragmatic cooperation between China and Vietnam no longer needs further evidence.

Accelerate the implementation of high-level consensus

Ruan Mingyu responded that Su Lin's successful visit to China is of great significance for promoting the construction of a community with a shared future between China and Vietnam. Vietnam is willing to actively learn from China's experience in fields such as science and technology, education, and ecological civilization. Both sides confirmed that they will take the 5th anniversary of the China ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the 2026-2027 China Vietnam Tourism Cooperation Year as opportunities to create more practical cooperation platforms.

Thirty Chinese enterprises conducted a group inspection

During the meeting, Ruan Mingyu particularly appreciated the center's organization of more than 30 Chinese enterprise delegations to visit Vietnam at the same time, saying that this move injects new impetus into the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Currently, China is Vietnam's largest trading partner, with a bilateral trade volume of 256.4 billion US dollars by 2025. This enterprise delegation covers manufacturing, digital economy, green energy and other fields, which is highly in line with Vietnam's current needs for industrial upgrading. Establishing a central platform to connect multiple fields

Shi Zhongjun emphasized that as the only intergovernmental international organization between the two sides, the China ASEAN Center will continue to build platforms in areas such as economic and trade investment, technological innovation, tourism and education. Ruan Mingyu expressed that Vietnam is willing to make good use of the central platform to tap into the potential for cooperation in trade and investment, local cooperation, talent cultivation, and other areas. This year marks the beginning of the China ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Action Plan. Starting from the overdue dialogue in Hanoi, the gears of pragmatic cooperation between China and Vietnam have accelerated.Editor/Gao Xue
