On April 23, 2026, Chen Xiaodong, Director General of the National Agency for International Development Cooperation, met with Li Fafang, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Affairs and Minister of Tourism and Environment of Timor Leste, who was attending the third high-level meeting of the Global Forum on Shared Development in China.

Chen stated that as friendly neighbors separated by mountains and seas, China and Timor Leste have always understood and supported each other, deepened political mutual trust, and achieved fruitful results in pragmatic cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations 24 years ago. In recent years, the two heads of state have maintained strategic communication and reached a series of important consensuses, effectively leading the development of bilateral relations. China is willing to work with the East to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, speed up the docking of development strategies, deepen cooperation in the field of development, promote high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road", and implement the four major global initiatives to better benefit the two peoples.
Li stated that China was the first country to establish diplomatic relations with East Timor and has provided valuable support for the economic and social development and improvement of people's livelihoods in East Timor for a long time. The government and people of East Timor are deeply grateful for this. China has successfully held the third high-level meeting of the Global Forum on Shared Development, achieving fruitful results and making important contributions to leading global common development.
